Maybe the majority of cops in Atlanta are good, but SO darn many of them are not!

Most Atlanta Police work extra security jobs IN UNIFORM but, I don’t know if that is the case here.

One other thing, private companies around here HIRE off duty police to do security, again they are usually in uniform.

Wow are you serious. What that Nazi did was MURDER!! Did that cop intend to murder the guy? We do not yet know the full circumstances of the shooting. Comparing the fairness of what that nazi did to a police shooting is outrageous... BTW boys........ The f***ing war is over!!!

The guy probably thought he was being held up and grabbed his cell phone to call the police.

Doesn't everyone keep a cell phone under the car seat? < /sarc >

Does a cop in this position actually have to give the subject the first shot, does he have to wait until he positively identifies a weapon, or, as in this case, make a tragic mistake?

Do criminals typically identify themselves as police to freeze their victims? Would it be reasonable for the subject to believe so?

So darned many questions, but we may never be certain of the truth!

They do if they're working traffic, but on security, some do and some don't. Remember the black kid who was gunned down by police in Lenox a couple of years ago. Cop WAS NOT in uniform.

From OCcupied Georgia said it very well.

Off duty means out of uniform. Once more the police get away with shooting a guy.

That’s pretty much what happened to the Eagle Scout in MD who had his face shot off by an undercover FBI SWAT team after a mistaken ID “felony traffic stop.”

Half of these plainclothed goons with assault rifles were screaming “Freeze! Don’t move!”

The other half were screaming “Get out! Get out!”

The terrified kid reached to unbuckle his seat belt, and they shot him point blank in the face, right through the windshield.

The FBI shooter didn’t even get a slap on the wrist.

The FBI shooter didn’t even get a slap on the wrist.

Wasn't the kid the 3rd guy that that particular agent had shot?

I’d have assumed this out-of-uniform officer

I couldn't find that in the article. Was he really out of uniform?

I agree that the picture was out of line.
Absolutely nothing to do with this case.

If I was in my home, YES, I’d shoot.

If I was on the street on spotted somebody “suspicious” and decided to chase him down and shoot him in the face?

No.
Not even.

I'm going by the "off duty" which usually (but not always) means out of uniform

No more out of line the the picture Eagle7 posted...
It has nothing to do with the case, just showed his bigotry towards the south.

If some guy intruded in my house you bet I'd shoot, But if I shot some guy on the street because he was "acting suspicious" I'd be charged (and rightly so) with assault with a deadly weapon.

does he have to wait until he positively identifies a weapon

If we're still citizens, yes. If we're just subjects, no.
