Weldon probe may be over, & without indictment
Philadephia Daily News ^ | 05/05/2009 | WILLIAM BENDER

Federal investigators were running wiretaps for months at a time in 2006 on then-U.S. Rep. Curt Weldon's chief of staff and other members of his inner circle, the U.S. Justice Department has revealed.

The wiretaps were disclosed in letters that the department recently sent to individuals - including this reporter, then employed at another newspaper - whose phone conversations with the targeted parties were intercepted.

The notifications, required under federal law, often are sent toward the end of an investigation or when the disclosure would no longer affect an ongoing investigation.

It was a shame to lose Weldon!

I hope he makes a comeback. The country could really use him now.

So that’s it then? Tap the guy’s phones, pressure his assistants to testify against him, seize hordes of documents, leak it all 3 weeks before the election, and then, ‘never mind’? What a sham.

Who makes these decisions at the Justice Department? Hey, I think this month we’ll go after Congressman X? Why Weldon? Why not all these other guys? I mean seriously, if you tapped Chris Dodd’s phones how many laws would you discover him breaking?

Why Weldon? Able Danger. They told him he’d be taken down and he was. Of course the case wouldn’t amount to anything.

Weldon was obviously screwed by some people in Washington, and in the Justice Department in particular. Will the “Office of Professional Responsibility” be investigating the U.S. Attorneys who went after Weldon? I didn’t think so.

Probably the same people that decided draining a pond was a good idea.

Curt Weldon, Bump!

Why Weldon? Able Danger.

My thought as well.

Sandy Berger certainly went to a lot of trouble to see to it that Weldon didn’t get re-elected. Good old Honest Sandy.

I’m beginning to think all these new reports of culture of corruption are bogus stories for the mere purpose of making conservatives look bad.

I hope Joe Sestak challenges Specter, so Weldon could reclaim his House seat back.

I’d send a check to Weldon in a heartbeaat.....and I’m not even in his District anymore.

I wonder if Weldon would even run for that seat again. He lost 20 years of seniority with his defeat on phony, trumped-up charges.

I don’t think that Weldon should make a comeback. There are other Republican office holders who could win the district. We need some new blood.

Able Danger is forgotten. Weldon is crushed. Their work here is done here. Move along, nothing to see...

“FOLEY,WELDON,DELAY AND STEVENS. Gee what did they all have in common?”

You have to admit the technique is effective.

They wouldn’t restore seniority?

I’m inclined to favor new blood as well but it looks like half of the Republicans they say have “ethics problems” actually don’t. Weldon. Conrad Burns, Stevens (uh at least on the charge he was convicted on).
