Jimmy Carter reported to accept coca invitation from Evo Morales

Globovision of Caracas reports news that we hope is inaccurate, and which will be denied by former President Carter.

The Venezuelan television network states that he has accepted an invitation to participate in the cultivation of coca with left wing Bolivian president Evo Morales, who grows it in Boliva.

"Given that President Morales has been to my property, and evidently has harvested some peanuts, I hope that on my next visit I can go to El Chapare, where he is going to take me to harvest some coca leaves," responded Carter, which also drew a smirk of happiness from Morales.

Confusingly, the Globovision headline reads: "Former U.S. President Carter accepts invitation to plant coca in Bolivia"

Is it plant or harvest?

We don't know.

I'm inclined to believe it was ever since he was elected to public office.

Carter cultivating coca?

Jimmy making an attempt to be even more mind-numbingly stupid?

It’s worth bearing in mind that coca in S. America has a long heritage that has nothing to do with narco-trafficking.

When checking into an up-market hotel in the Andean highlands it is more than likely that your hosts will provide you with a cup of coca tea, which certainly helps with altitude sickness but has no discernible psychoactive effects.

Andean workers have long chewed coca leaves mixed with ‘cal’ (a chalky substance) to combat fatigue and surpress hunger. Having tried it, it’s like chewing a mouthful of grit and hedge trimmings and it makes the inside of your cheek go numb - I preferred the fatigue.

I quite understand the suspcion towards coca farmers and no doubt the majority of coca production goes to feed U.S addiction, but I do feel sorry for the traditional users over there.

Then afterwards he and Morales can go inhale some suspicious powder with the admitted snorter Hugo Chavez.
Yeesh.
