Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Saturday that it's time for the Republican Party to give up its "nostalgia" for the heyday of the Reagan era and look forward, even if it means stealing the winning strategy deployed by Democrats in the 2008 election.
"You can't beat something with nothing, and the other side has something. I don't like it, but they have it, and we have to be respectful and mindful of that," Mr. Bush said.
The former president's brother, often mentioned as a potential candidate in 2012, said President Obama's message of hope and change during the 2008 campaign clearly resonated with Americans.
"So our ideas need to be forward looking and relevant. I felt like there was a lot of nostalgia and the good old days in the [Republican] messaging. I mean, it's great, but it doesn't draw people toward your cause," Mr. Bush said.
"From the conservative side, it's time for us to listen first, to learn a little bit, to upgrade our message a little bit, to not be nostalgic about the past because, you know, things do ebb and flow."

Remember Katherine Harris.......
JEB BUSH.....sounds like you should say “bless you” afterwords.
I didn’t read the whole article, but I don’t see this as RINO. I’ve often thought that we need to stop living in the past and find SOMEONE NEW that has good solid Conservative beliefs.
Reagan was great, but he’s gone. Who is here for us now???
We need to quit letting the media pick our representatives, they only pick who is bad for us.
RINO go home!
I would take one Reagan over all three Bushes. No more family dynasties! How’s that, JubJub?
Sounds like its time for conservatives to leave the GOP behind. And it is definitely time to leave the Bush family behind, so why does Jeb think he is relevant to the future of the Republican Party?

The REAGAN MODEL is how to win elections.
Jeb is like, so yesterday.
What other than Hope and Change" mixed with statism do they have, Mr. Bush. Do you suggest we join them in being statists?
The headline is misleading. That’s not what Bush said. He said that if ALL we have is nostalgia for the Reagan era, we will lose.
God help us.

JubJub
I have no problem with what Jeb said either.
He isn’t dissing Reagan or saying his beliefs were wrong.
He is saying we need to realize this is 2009, not 1980...
We need to have a forward-looking message and actual solutions to problems, not looking backwards all the times like many on here do and then cry RINO if they even have the smallest disagreement with someone. It’s childish and frankly no better than DU.
Dear Jeb Bush,
Please just shut up and go away. You and your kind are the reason Obama is now President.
Just. Go. Away.
Hey, Jeb! Buh- Bye!!!
WHERE ARE THE TRUE CONSERVATIVES WITH CAJONES!!??!!
And if you actually read his quotes and not the interpretation provided by the Times reporter, there is nothing he said that any rational person would disagree with...
No No and NO!
“Jeb Bush: Time to Leave Reagan Behind (another RINO outs himself)”
No Jeb, it’s time to leave your whole fam damily behind. I am so happy that I never again will have to vote for a Bush.
“Mr. Cantor said meeting with ordinary folks is the key way “to begin a conversation with the American people” and explain Republican principles to anyone who will listen.
Mr. Romney, a failed 2008 Republican presidential candidate, said his party has got to do a better job of listening. “
THIS IS THE PROBLEM THOUGH! First they say they ‘are on a listening tour’ of ordinary folks and in the next sentence they are ‘explaining republican principles’ to anyone who will listen??
To further complicate Jeb’s message, he is saying we need to adopt the democrat model for winning? That just sounds like more of the same to me. After all, the democrats won by running so called ‘blue dogs’ in conservative districts. The flip side of that would be us running more rinos in liberal districts. That is not a winning strategy. It is the same thing that got us to where we are now.
These politicos on our side need to shut up and attend a few tea parties and really listen for once.
(shaking head) (caps just meant for highlight purposes..not shouting)
Jeb we don’t need another 4 years of nothing in the White House.
Sure, Jeb......you mean "things" like prinicples?
Regan was conservative. Bush is not=rino.
