The state energy commission denies it wants to ban any kind of television sets. They claim that they just want to limit the market only to those models that provide better energy efficiency in order to save costs and cut down on emissions. The Orange County Register notes that the annual savings in energy costs between comparable plasma and LCD models amounts to a grand total of $30 per year.

More controls on people's lives. Note how these scumbags don't consider increasing power production. No no, they need to control your life.

Cut down on emissions? Put tape over Boxer and Feingold’s mouths.

$30 a year is quite a lot. Multiply that by 30 odd million sets, it adds up to a considerable sum. Besides, plasma sets are rubbish...lcd is far better. Plasmas are far less reliable and far more delicate.

So why they need to tell people not to use plasmas is beyond me. Just point out the facts and let them choose. Id choose LCD

You miss the point. These politicians just want more control over people’s lives.

That’s all this is.

I guess the round-screen Philco has gotta go.

LCD’s are better for bright rooms like a living room in the day.

Plasmas are better in a dark room like a theater. Richer colors and significantly darker darks.

I say neither and spring for a projector. Can get a 1080p native resolution projector and throw a 150 inch picture if you’ve got the wall for it.

Don’t worry, it’s on legally imported Plasma sets that speak English-only. There are 2 sets of rules for legal and illegal imports of Plasmas......illegally imported Spanish-only plasma sets suck more power, so, English only legal plasma sets have to hand over their power consumption.

This is nothing but size envy disguised as something else. TV is the altar of socialism. It's a very effective way to keep the masses in a brainwashed stupor, sitting in a room quietly doing nothing, consuming next to no energy. Leftists are being foolish demonizing TV sets, letting their envy get the best of them. Not to give them ideas, but they should be going after internet connected computers.

In my opinion, they’d be better off going after the manufacturer’s of the big screen tv’s that stop working after 2 years that they refuse to repair or replace! I’m in a battle with Samsung over ours.

You're absolutely right in how this fits into the liberal mind set. This is all about control. It may seem trivial to some but this is really just one of many steps liberals feel necessary to protect us from ourselves. How many other issues come to mind; firearms, food, CAFE standards, the list is endless. It's just this “soft tyranny” that Mark Levin talks about in his new book.

What we need is a government that's off of our backs and out of our wallets. What we've got at the moment is an 800 pound gorilla jumping up and down with an unquenchable desire for other people's money.

Stick it to the little guy who sits in his two room apartment and enjoys his plasma TV. Meanwhile, Hollywood celebs and liberal elites reside in multi room mansions with sprawling grounds sucking up megawatts of power to cool their homes and heat their pool.

I don’t what the rich people have and do. It’s supposed to be a free country. But they’re the ones who always stick it to the little guy whose “carbon footprint” (man, I hate that phrase) is miniscule compared to those who want to control.
