Swine Flu Not So Tough: Scientists (beginning to relax about the current outbreak)

Scientists are gradually downgrading their worst-case scenarios for the swine flu outbreak, the Los Angeles Times report. The H1N1 strain initially appeared to have disturbing similarities to the 1918 flu virus, but researchers analyzing genetic data released this week say the strain is less lethal than feared—and may in fact be less harmful than seasonal flu.

Health officials say the virus is still spreading and is likely to cause more deaths in the US, but nothing on the scale of the annual flu season, which kills tens of thousands of Americans yearly. Scientists, while beginning to relax about the current outbreak, warn that the virus could mutate into a deadlier form if it survives long enough. "If this virus keeps going through our summer," one microbiologist said, "I would be very concerned."

Has it been long enough for Zero and his entourage to infect most of the US?

anyone want to analyze the veracity of this doc’s email to his patients, and post it if they think it is reliable?

I am not sure, and do not want to spread FUD, but also do not want to discount it, just in case the doc is right.

Read down past his disclaimer to read the original email.

A medical board I checked in on yesterday expressed a similar position (generally) -- but itself this one is not much, but there are a couple of strains in Asia that could make it really nasty, especially in combination: one is resistant to existing vaccines, the other is quite virulent.

But that's all speculation (however educated) and WAY out of my area, so I'll say no more.

I say it is BS since Alex Jones is spreading it around on “Prison Planet”

They are probably right. Problem is, when this turns into nothing.......the next time you won’t be able to get people to stop traveling or start washing their hands.

did find this, which supports part of what he is stating.

News broadcast this am...
this morning on local Austin Tx news I heard (besides the 23 month old that died) that there was 2 critical patients in Tx, one a young boy, and another a pregnant woman. For the rest of the day I have heard nothing of these 2 cases....just disappeared, anyone else here about these 2 critical cases???

re the TX woman & child
CBC reports
http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/...
“State health officials also confirmed a second child in Texas, another 23-month-old, has swine flu and is in critical care.
A pregnant woman in the state also “likely” has swine flu, said Dr. David Lakey, the commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services. The woman had an emergency caesarean section and is in critical condition. The baby is fine, said Lakey.”

found this in Fluwiki a few searches ago, and saved it to post here.

Ok, so I get the flu and feel miserable, should I feel more miserable because I know I have Swine Flu, or should I feel more miserable knowing I have the “regular” flu (whatever that is), fact is, I have had the flu for several days, I don’t know or care whether it is the swine flu, I am still freaking miserable, and if I die from it (whatever IT is) it doesn’t matter, if I don’t die from it (whatever IT is) it doesn’t matter. Who cares what you call it, its the freakin’ flu.

The thing is, the first wave isn’t usually that bad. It’s when it comes BACK....AND IT WILL.....that it will mutate and kill bigtime in all likelihood.

Expect the media to now proclaim that Obama has saved the world from a Pandemic.

The interesting thing is another article said this flu is a mixture of bird, swine and human strains of the flu.

The 1918 flu was almost pure avian.....which may explain why this is not as deadly (yet).
