Equality Bill 'will force gay plays into theatres'
The Christian Institute ^ | April 29, 2009 | The Christian Institute

Homosexual campaigners have boasted about how they hope to use the new Equality Bill to force local councils to back their demands.

The claim is made on a site called equalitybill.com, run by a political campaigner who also works for Lord Alli, an openly gay Peer in the House of Lords.

Theo Grzegorczyk says that Canterbury City Council has decided not to back a plan to promote gay plays in the council-owned theatre.

The council has encouraged the group that made the suggestion, Pride in Canterbury, to promote the plays themselves.

According to the Council’s website, it appears to have endorsed at least two events organised by Pride in Canterbury in the last two years.

In an article for his Equality Bill website Mr Grzegorczyk says Canterbury Council’s decision is “unacceptable” and “a good reason to support the Equality Duty”.

He adds that under the Equality Bill, “this behaviour would be made quite literally illegal.”

Mr Grzegorczyk believes that the Council’s behaviour amounts to “refusing point-blank to engage with the LGBT community”.

The claim will stoke fears that elements of the Equality Bill could be used by homosexual activist groups to exert a disproportionate influence in public life.

The positive duties brought in by the Equality Bill would mean that public bodies, like local councils, will be forced to promote ‘equality’ in areas including sexual orientation.

Although there are similar duties applying to religion, Christian groups have pointed to a number of recent cases where ‘gay rights’ legislation has appeared to supersede protections for religious belief.

It's beyond belief that it has come to this. The homosexual militants are on the verge of passing legislation to make it illegal to oppose the degenerate homosexual lifestyle. If everyone doesn't call their Representative and demand they vote against this sickening legislation, then we have no excuses.

The BO administration has arranged for GM to make expensive eco-deathtrap cars that few people want to buy. This will provide plays that few people will want to attend. What is wrong with this picture, and why am I paying for it?

The time is coming and may be upon us that to NOT walk out of anything gay is promoting it.. Just as watching or listening to any RAP is a slap in the face of actual Music..

I don’t have any representatives in the United Kingdom.

It would help if you would mention in parentheses after the title where this legislation is pending, as this sounds like we’re talking about the UK.

Sorry, I made a mistake. My wife and I are working frantically to contact legislators to oppose the pro-homosexual legislation on the House floor right now. We got it confused with the legislation in this article. The House is voting right now and we’ve got to stop this insane bill. The homosexuals are on the verge of making our Churches and our Pastors into criminals just for opposing their lifestyle choice.

I was having similar thoughts.

Recently I attended a performance of “Chicago” with my sisters. All of them are really interested in attending live theater, but I am not. And my reason is that all of the shows these days promote the leftist social agenda in some way. This trend has been worsening over the last 30 years or so.

Whats the old saying...Scratch a polititian and you’ll find an actor underneath and underneath that you’ll find an actress. Scratch the actress and underneath you’ll find the devil himself.

This freeper playwright has a play opening in July, so a few of us in the theater community don’t do the leftist schtick.

If (and only if) JimRob allows me, I’ll post the details on FR. I have a bit of an incentive to contribute to this quarter’s freepathon...

Just because you force the play into the theater is no assurance that you will fill the seats. The theater owner should have recourse against the government if forced to accept a play the public won't patronize simply because it is a "gay" product. Choices should have consequences.

Edward Albee? Noel Coward? Christopher Durang? Harvey Fierstein? Allen Ginsberg? Tony Kushner? Terrence McNally? Gore Vidal? Oscar Wilde? Tennessee Williams? Not to mention classical playwrights of whom we can only guess.

They need to subsidize straight playwrights.

Are you referring to a bill in the US?
