An Associated Press story dated April 28 takes swine flu fears to a whole other level.
A report datelined Washington by Ricardo Alonsozaldivar and Eileen Sullivan examined the worst-case scenario "if the swine flu gets out of control."
"Two million dead," Alonsozaldivar and Sullivan wrote. "Hospitals overwhelmed. Schools closed. Swaths of empty seats at baseball stadiums and houses of worship. An economic recovery snuffed out. We're nowhere close to what government planners say would be a worst-case scenario: a global flu pandemic. But government leaders at all levels, and major employers, have spent nearly four years planning for one in series of exercises."

As I posted elsewhere there is good news; Even if the outbreak results in two million deaths, ACORN has promised that those voters who die will not be deinfranchised and they will make sure each is registered to vote in the next election. ;-)

In this case the intent could very well be to use it as an excuse to speed up Sebelius’s nomination and shutdown the tea parties on the pretense of prohibiting large public gatherings to prevent further spreading of the flu.

This is not normal influenza. This is Swine Flu. It’s highly contagious, and has a much higher mortality rate than normal influenza. Swine Flu killed 750,000 worldwide (35,000 in the US) in 1968-69. That would be in addition to normal deaths from influenza.

People seem to think that in an event of this type the

I’m sorry, what’s wrong with the article? (Or at least your excerpt, I didn’t read the article). Writing a story that the worst case scenario if this turns into a pandemic would be 2 million dead americans? 350 americans, assume a 30% infection rate (much lower than 1918) and 2% mortality rate (low end of 1918) = 2 million. Where I come from, that’s called scenario assessment. Kinda like talking to your family about life insurance and writing a living will.
