I am not watching any “presser”...I try to avoid any of Dear Leader’s speeches whenever possible.

Instead I’m listening to my music on playlist.com and checking out FR!

Can’t believe no cases have shown up yet, or at least been reported, in Chicago. I heard awhile back that thanks to Daley’s sanctuary city ruling, Chicago is now 1/3 Hispanic. And I believe this flu first broke during Easter week when I would guess many were home in Mexico visiting relatives...

This week on ‘Rachel Ray’ they had a segment about the increase in whooping cough.....and wondered why it has increased SO much in the last 7 years....no, not one word about immigration and the ‘global economy’. We’ve had many articles on FR in the past about that and other diseases we had eradicated being reintroduced.

Whooping cough outbreak linked to illegals
Doctors warn of worst spread of pertussis in 40 years

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=44732

[snip]A rise in diseases such as whooping cough, tuberculosis, malaria, measles and even leprosy are creating public health concerns and have hit hospitals and health care systems already financially burdened by indigent illegals flooding emergency rooms and urgent care centers.

Madeleine Pelner Cosman, author of a report in the spring issue of the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons, is one of those professionals who has linked the increase in diseases with illegal immigration.

“Certain diseases that we thought we had vanquished years ago are coming back, and other diseases that we’ve never seen or rarely seen in America, because they’ve always been the diseases of poverty and the third world, are coming in now,” she said.

Mexico gov’t decrees special powers in flu crisis

MEXICO CITY, April 25 (Reuters) - Mexican President Felipe Calderon issued an emergency decree on Saturday giving the government special powers to run tests on sick people and order them isolated to fight the deadly flu crisis.

Mexico City has already shut schools and museums and canceled sporting and cultural events as an outbreak of a new type of swine flu killed up to 68 people in the country and spread north to infect some people in the United States.

Saturday’s decree, published in Mexico’s official journal, gives the government power to isolate sick people, enter homes or workplaces and regulate air, sea and land transportation to try to stop further infection.

The flu has rattled residents of Mexico’s overcrowded capital of some 20 million people.

Calderon tried to calm Mexicans earlier on Saturday, saying the flue was curable. He said health authorities easily had enough antiviral medicine for the 1,000 or so people suspected to be infected with the swine flu and that his government was monitoring the situation “minute by minute.”

Tests on Saturday showed eight New York City schoolchildren had a type A influenza virus likely to be the same type as the Mexican flu, adding to nine people in California and Texas who tested positive for it, although they later recovered. Two swine flu cases were also confirmed in Kansas.

The World Health Organization declared the outbreaks a “public health event of international concern” and urged all countries to boost their surveillance for any unusual outbreaks of influenza-like illness and severe pneumonia.

The agency stopped short of raising the threat level to a pandemic — a global epidemic of a serious disease.

I agree. Chicago is a natural for cases of this.

Auckland students are likely to have contracted swine flu testing has found.

Three teachers and 22 senior students from North Shore’s Rangitoto College have been kept in isolation following their return yesterday from a three week language trip.

More than 80 people in Mexico are believed to have died and over 1300 are sick as a result of catching swine flu. Cases have also been reported in New York, California and Kansas and a British Airways pilot has been hospitalised in London with flu symptoms after returning from Mexico.

Health Minister Tony Ryall said in a statement this evening 10 of the 13 students tested had returned positive influenza results.

” I don’t like to bring this up but this kind of thing is all that the administration will need to declare a nationwide emergency and take over complete control of the country. /tinfoil hat off “

They just asked Napolitano about quarantine and she said that we are not there, yet
and it would be a state issue, not federal.

France finds 2 suspected cases of swine flu

http://www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id=92603&sectionid=351020603

Two suspected cases of Mexico’s deadly swine flu have been found in France after the WHO’s warning over its global “pandemic potential.”

“We do have suspicions, but these have not been confirmed, about two people who have returned from Mexico,” general health director Didier Houssin told Le Parisien paper on Sunday.

The flu virus initially emerged in Mexico, killing up to 81 people and infecting over 1,300 others.

The US health authorities also reported that 11 people are infected in Kansas, Texas and California. Eight suspected patients were also found in New York City.

Earlier on Saturday, the World Health Organization warned that the virus has the potential to become global pandemic, calling it a “public health emergency of international concern.”

Following the announcement of the outbreak, Colombian health authorities said it is closely monitoring the deadly virus.

Social Welfare Minister Diego Palacio said that health authorities have set up an emergency committee to fight the strain

I live in the NW Chicago suburbs and have been thinking exactly the same thing. You'd think we'd be second, after L.A.

In addition-Napolitano asked what powers Obama would have at the federal level to deal with this, since quarantine is a state issue.
She did not want to give a “ legal brief.”
Later this week, someone will give a briefing on the federal powers Obama has and might use if necessary.
