That’s because the south is in the same position as the North was in the first civil war. A large portion of transportation, military, manufacturing, finance, energy, population, and technology centers in America are based in the south now. Heck Texas’s population and GDP alone is around 8 or 9% of the nations total alone.

I have to think the biggest reason the south has become important business wise is the lack of trade unions.

In 1980 I lived and worked in N.W. Houston and I’ve heard it has only grown since then as I’m sure has Dallas, San Antone and Austin.
Flew over West Texas last year and loved seeing all the irrigated farm circles everywhere.

That and reasonable taxes and regulations.

In a way the south has “risen”. There is no denying that the south and west are the most prosperous, patriotic, and innovative centers of the country. The south learned the lessons of the civil war in that an agrarian or commodities based society and economy is totally unworkable in the modern world.

Unfortunately the North East and Midwest have not learned from the past in that we no longer live in the mid twentieth century anymore. The age of when nations could levy any level of taxation and regulation and give in to any demand of labor without fear of any competition from the outside world has long since past.

Were you in a position to open a business it surely wouldnt be in tsay Chicago where you have to deal with unions and corrupt govt. to boot. Same for N.Y. and so many old cities.

That's wierd. I replied to you but they deleted it.

Given your arrogant tone, I imagine your ex-wife tells great stories.

The nub of why you are wrong is that, especially in a democracy, a military's capability to win a fight is second to the nation's will to win a fight. And at the outset, the result of the war was by no means determined anymore than the outcome of the war in Iraq was when it started.

Reagan certainly deserves a place in the capitol.
Texas has Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston. I don't think those guys will be replaced anytime soon. That would be heresy.
I'm soooo glad LBJ is not there.

Some of the mods have been know to save a poster from embarassing himself when he's already gone down that road.

Given your arrogant tone, I imagine your ex-wife tells great stories.

I don't usually do this, but given your "arrogant tone", you deserve it: My wife died of cancer in her 20's. Thanks for asking.

The nub of why you are wrong is that, especially in a democracy, a military's capability to win a fight is second to the nation's will to win a fight. And at the outset, the result of the war was by no means determined anymore than the outcome of the war in Iraq was when it started.

If you are conparing the Civil War to Iraq, then the South is Iraq, right? At the end of the Civil War, roughly 100% of the citizens in the South still opposed the North, and the North still won. So, please tell me (if you have the mental capacity to do so) what if any logical point are you trying to make? The idea that a nation's will to fight is the deciding factor in a war is just dumb. It is one of many. Most people in the North voted for Lincoln. They were aware of what that meant. So the idea that there was as strong an opposition to Civil War as there was to the Iraq war is ignorant. And, anyway, we didn't almost lose the Iraq war because of politics. It took longer than expected because of poor strategy. And we still won. In spite of something like 80% opposition. So just what the hell is your point anyway?

I don’t know who it is from New York, but it should be Alexander Hamilton and Teddy Roosevelt.

Knowing New York, I’m sure its something multicultural and wonderful. Not.

LOL! I don’t believe Funkadelics are allowed in the National Statuary Hall. You have to be dead, and he looks like a zombie, so don’t think he would qualify.

True. Last time Parliment played the Capitol they unfortunately tore the roof off.

I'm not giving you sympathy. You insulted me repeatedly in your first two post without any return fire, so get off your high horse.

I am pointing out that the US is the North. And the US was within a dozen thousand votes of giving up the war in 2004.

And if you think the Iraq conflict has been 'won' or that it's over - I really can't give anything you have to say any credence.

So GFYS.

The points that you are trying to make at the end of you post are incorrect, so I'm not sure how to address them again without calling them stupid. You don't seem to like that very much, so let's just pretend I didn't and move on. You've allowed yourself to become indoctrinated by the left if you think "the US was within a dozen thousand votes of giving up the (Iraq) war in 2004." The 2008 election was supposedly a referrendum against the war, and here we are 100 days later essentially following the previous admistration's plan with Obama calling it his own. And, by the way, we are not currently in a state of war in Iraq (though that is subject to change). We are occupying that country, which now has its own Constitution and has held Democratic elecions. There are still terrorist attacks sponsored by Baathist sympathizers, foreign al quaeda infiltrators, and Iranian operatives, but the vast majority of Iraqis are moving on with their lives. This has all been in the news. I'm suprised you missed it. I might wonder here if you were either clueless or dicombobulated, but you'd also take that as an insult, instead of the constructive observation that it was intended to be. In any case, Micheal Moore and Keith Olberman are two more people who think the Iraq war parrallels the US Civil War, so you're in good company.

Since you accused me of insulting you repeatedly in my first two posts, I'm wondering if you might let me know what you found more hurtful that a pretty foul attack on a dead loved one? I'd be interested to know. I am sorry that your feeling were hurt, but I truely meant whatever it is that I said.

Oh, BTW: When you respond, please keep in mind that you and your great great grandfather no longer have the right to own black people because my great great grandfaher and his superior army came down there and burned a lot of buildings to the ground and kicked your collective asses. But please don't be offended.
