Stem cells 'able to reverse symptoms of multiple sclerosis'
Telegraph (U.K.) ^ | April 23, 2009 | Kate Devlin

Scientists have been able to reverse the symptoms of multiple sclerosis using stem cells from patients' own body fat.

Some have been left free from seizures and better able to walk after the treatment.

Researchers said that the results suggest that the "very simple" injection of their own cells can stimulate the regrowth of tissue damaged by the progression of the disease.

The preliminary findings add to the growing evidence that stem cells could be used to treat the crippling neurological disease, which affects about 85,000 people in Britain.

Last year experts suggested that stem cell therapy could be a "cure" for MS within the next 15 years.

Patients' symptoms were still improving up to a year after the treatment, the new study shows.

One, a 50-year-old man, who had suffered more than 600 painful seizures in the three years before treatment has not had a single one since the infusion of his own cells.

Another patient's ability to walk, run and even cycle are still improving 10 months after the therapy.

MS is caused by the destruction of myelin, a fatty protective sheath surrounding the body's central nervous system.

Sufferers typical experience fatigue, difficulty walking or speaking and pain and there is currently no known cure.

Dr Boris Minev, from the University of California, said: "All three patients in our study showed dramatic improvement in their condition.

"While obviously no conclusions in terms of therapeutic efficacy can be drawn from these reports, this first clinical use of fat stem cells for treatment of MS supports further investigations into this very simple and easily-implementable treatment methodology".

“from patients’ own body fat”

adult stem cells, in other words.

uhhhh, didn’t that deserve to be in the headline...... given the surrounding issues.........

using stem cells from patients' own body fat.

Why not? The patients own DNA is already there. It's compatible.

Dead baby bodies have their own DNA. Like any organ transplant, they'd be rejected without a life time of medication.

BUT....it's not about lives. It's about the population control advocates and their political donations.

I am sure this whole "torture" issue is a diversion, while the UAW is paid off with tax dollars for their pensioners as Chrysler is controlled by the Messiah as it is forced into bankruptcy. ALL the UAW members will be funded by ALL OF US TAXPAYERS, as part of the payback to the UNION contributions in annointing The Messiah. The Democrats are also using this issue (the "torture") as cover, while legislation is fast-tracked through in furtherance of their twisted socialist agenda, under cover and without debate.

The MSM is totally complicit with them, as always, promoting the deflection and ignoring investigations of corruption, errors and goofy acts by The Messiah, etc.

We are totally screwed, America.

“It’s about the population control advocates”

Absolutely. And societal control generally; having the power of life or death.

MS is caused by the destruction of myelin, a fatty protective sheath surrounding the body's central nervous system.

Just as the lowly almond will prevent cancer, the blue berry will rebuild the nervous system.
Years ago, life wasn't so hectic. People had more time to notice things. For example: They noticed goats never got TB (like cows). The TB antibody has been found in goats milk. The average farmers knew this, but were scientifically or medically unable to explain it. Therefore, the farmers had no "credibility", and their old "wives tales" were easily dismissed.
They knew a cold entered through the nose, and used salt, vinegar, or alcohol to swab their noses in the morning. They never got colds. Today, there's nose swabs on the market that are used to shorten the symptoms of a cold by days.

It is Bush’s fault he kept the focus on this. God Bless him.

The real issue is bigger than Watergate. GE is in deep with Oboma. Imagine what a carbon tax will do for GE's business! And it's CEO! This is a quid pro quo.

Um, hate to argue, but it's more about the glory of lab scientists than anything else. I work around the group that is pushing the embryonic side of things in my state and population control is never any part of their argument. State funding, yes, to keep the labs running because there are fewer funders now than there were even 20 years ago. The word "hope" has been adopted, but as embryonic stem cell research is in its sixth decade with zero tangible positive results, it's become a race to prove critics wrong and the Nobel prize that will go to the person who gets it to work. There are serious doubts that it will ever happen, but they don't want to hear it.

Nah. I think the lab scientists are just an extra extremity that grew out of the side of it. It's an excuse ( support population control and eternal health will be yours ), but, I agree that to the scientists - it is an extremely lucrative challenge.

No, no, no. Everyone knows we simply MUST use embryonic stem cells in order for any meaningful cures to be found. And the taxpayers MUST foot the bill for this research, otherwise we won’t get all these nifty cures.

Too bad the editor left the most critical piece of information out of the headline. The headline SHOULD have read: "Non-Embryonic Stem Cells ..."

I seriously think you underestimate the vanity and egocentrism of lab scientists. It's not pretty.

Maybe. I've never met one personally. There's no doubt they're probably a bunch of pin heads. In this case, Frankensteins.
