[Snip]--- MONTREAL [snip] All ears will be tuned in to hear if the Bell Centre crowd [Montreal Canadians] will embarrass itself again by booing the American national anthem...[snip}
With the sound of the boos still ringing in his head. [Boston goalie Tim Thomas] had one observation for reporters concerning the issue: "I thought when Obama got elected (president) they were going to stop doing that," he said.

America has a great ally in our neighbor, Canada.
They’re with us in Afghanistan.
The actions of a few yobs don’t amount to nothing.
‘Thank You, Canada!!!”
(Windsor Bridge, 1979)
One more thing, booing the “Star Spangled Banner,” blamed on Bush that had nothing to do with him and only showed the classlessness of the people doing it.
US fans. Laugh loud and long, when they play, “Oh, Canada!” Just laugh, and maybe hold up signs with beavers on them.
You know, I think they only ‘hate’ the US because of the media. Theirs and ours has ingrained it. Blame America for everything as a fallback position is what their leftists have always done.
I thought when Obama got elected (president) they were going to stop doing that,” he said.
I thought he would be Jimmy Carter II, I was wrong too, Tim!
Canada is/was not with us in Iraq. And the only reason they are with us in Afghanistan is that NATO invoked Article 5.
Agreed. Some American yobs booed the Canadian anthem in New York a few years back. This is pretty much a non issue.
The American media was “happy” to see it happen when Boosh was President.
What’s bad for America is good for Democrats when a Republican is in high office.
Most of our NATO “allies” provided nothing more than non-combat support in Afghanistan. Our neighbor Canada sent top of the line infantry, many of whom paid the ultimate price for western civilization.
Maybe, you frickin' idiot, that's WHY they were booing!
Redbob, the booing originally started years ago as a result of the incident in Afghanistan, where four Canadian soldiers were killed when they were mistakenly fired on by a U.S. fighter plane. -
As you know, PresO was supposed to make amends for all the past sins of the US military. I think that’s the point Thomas was trying to make.
Dummass.
The Quebecois are not Canadians.
Dear Bruins,
Finish them off tonight.
They’d be speaking not French nor English but Russian today weren’t it for the DEW Line.
Sports fans in certain cities tend to be rude from the getgo. Think of the Philly fans boo’ing Sarah Palin (and Piper). Then think of the Houston fans cheering President Bush (43) when he threw out the first ball this year.
IMHO, biggest mistake we made after the War of 1812 was to NOT go north an wipe out all those Tory scum once and for all.
Canada has 2,800 troops in Afghanistan [US has about 60,000] and has lost, to date, 117 personnel compared to the US total of 679 KIAs and the UK's 152. As a Vietnam veteran myself, I respect their sacrifice, but let's not make this into a major contribution to the war on terror. Canada has not pulled its weight in that regard. They chose not to participate with the US in Iraq. In terms of blood and treasure, it has been the US that has been doing most of the work.
Canada's entire defense force is 65,000 active duty personnel. Canada spends a pitiful 1.1% of GDP on defense, which is around 130th in the world. The head of the Canadian Army stated that the army would have to take a year off from operational duties beginning in 2011. Canada's defense forces are a joke.
It really frosts me that Canadians at hockey games and at the special Olympics boo the US national anthem. It is OK for the Uncle Sam to protect their asses so they can use their money for social welfare programs while the US taxpayer picks up the tab for defense.
