Obama, joined by Mexican President Felipe Calderon at a press conference in Mexico City, said he and Calderon discussed the ban "extensively" during their meeting earlier in the day.
Mexican officials have said in recent days that they would like to see the ban reinstated, noting that more than 90 percent of guns recovered in Mexico come from the U.S.
The White House was quick to blunt comments Attorney General Eric Holder made earlier this year supportive of pursuing a reinstatement, but Obama said Thursday that he has not changed his position.
"I have not backed off at all from my belief that the assault weapons ban makes sense," Obama said, adding that he is not "under any illusions that reinstating that ban would be easy.

Yes, and we're under no illusions that's the only reason you haven't done it. We remember what you said during the campaign about a total weapons ban.....there weren't enough votes if you wanted to implement it. Whenever he says "I won't do this," he means: "I don't have the ability.....at this time."
BTW, I noticed in his meeting with Calderone, the Mexican president was significantly shorter than Obama. Oddly enough, however, there was no "height difference" bow.
These clowns have redefined everything this side of a peashooter as an “assault weapon”, for the purpose of imposing as much gun control as possible.
If it cannot be fired in automatic mode, it is NOT an assault weapon! (Yes, 3 round bursts count)
Translation: I want to take ALL the guns off the market and out of the publics hand, but the truth is, I know I’ll never get it past congress right now. Maybe I’ll be able to slide it thru during the next crisis.

In 2007-2008, according to ATF Special Agent William Newell, Mexico submitted 11,000 guns to the ATF for tracing. Close to 6,000 were successfully traced -- and of those, 90 percent -- 5,114 to be exact, according to testimony in Congress by William Hoover -- were found to have come from the U.S. But in those same two years, according to the Mexican government, 29,000 guns were recovered at crime scenes. In other words, 68 percent of the guns that were recovered were never submitted for tracing. And when you weed out the roughly 6,000 guns that could not be traced from the remaining 32 percent, it means 83 percent of the guns found at crime scenes in Mexico could not be traced to the U.S.
That doesn't really matter to a man who considers that document a "charter of negative liberty."

Step one: Declare Texas Independence
Step two: Declare Martial Law in border counties and post the TDF Texas Defense Force (Texas National Guard) to the border to repel all illegal immigrants.
Step three: begin to round up and repatriate all illegal immigrants from Mexico. (no groaning please - and yes it can be done)
Step four: if you don’t like the steps then take I-10 west to California, I-30 East to New York or I-35 North to Wiscinsin, etc... and don’t let the door knob hit you in the A$$ on the way out. You will fin the political climate in those garden spots more to you liking.

There is NO SUCH THING as an “assault weapon”. If someone is whacked with a stick or a rock that was picked up off the ground, did the stick assault you or the person weilding it? A weapon cannot assault you, only other people can.

17% of those guns that Mexico allows the US to trace, and can be traced, trace back to the USA’s databases on guns that have come into the USA legally.
I guess that does not make a great sound bite, though, and does not further civil disarmament.

Everytime I hear the "90%" figure, usually followed by a belt fed .50 and grenades, I scream at the TV.
Total fabrication, but nobody will call them on it. The fact that a portion of the guns are EVEN TRACEABLE is because the US keeps good records, unlike the vast majority of countries from which the other 83% of the automatic weapons orginate...
I’ve got a Gadsden (yellow one) and I also fly the civilian US flag (blue stars on white field, red and white vertical bars).
There were two US flags, one to signify military jurisdiction/law and one for civil jurisdiction/law. After the civil war, the civilian flag was seen less and less as so many places were under emergency powers ofthe military. But in certain books (Mark Twain, a couple others) make mention of the flag, some old photogrpah images show it.
You can purchase one still, there is a guy who has a flag company that makes them. Google “US civilian flag” and I believe you’ll find him.
