Just walked up to the Tea Party in Lafayette Park, and was surprised to see that police tape was up, the park was cleared, and police were patrolling the borders.

Suspicious Package

Washington, D.C. (BNO NEWS) -- A suspicious package was found at the north-west gate of the White House on Wednesday, officials told BNO News.

The package was found just after 2 p.m. EDT and there were unconfirmed reports that the item was thrown over a fence by a protester, but a Secret Service official was unable to confirm that.

The U.S. Secret Service, the Metropolitan Police Department and the Washington D.C. Fire Department were among the agencies on scene. Access to the surrounding area of the north-west gate has been restricted until the package has been cleared but no evacuations have been ordered.

There were unconfirmed reports that the package had already be cleared at the time of this report.
