RACELAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Tempers flared Tuesday night during a Raceland City Council meeting when a payroll tax was discussed.
Railroad union official Woody Lane and Raceland Councilman Mike Wilson almost came to blows in the lobby after the council passed an amended 1 percent payroll tax.
A 2 percent tax was passed earlier this year but never enforced. Even with the tax cut in half, no one seems happy. The city's two biggest employers -- Progressive Rail and Raceland Schools -- said they feel targeted by the tax.
Mayor Don McKee and the Council said the tax could help save a their struggling city. One of the reasons for all of the anger is that McKee and City Council have not gone on record to say what the tax revenue will be used for. Because the tax was amended, the ordinance will have to be read one more time -- at 6 p.m. Monday before it goes into effect.
and so it begins. The unintended consequences of waking up a sleeping populace. Tally HO!
Where private property ends, communism begins.
Well since Obama and his cabinent won’t, someone will have to pay the extra taxes...
Hope they don’t prevail in this taxation.
I got to say, that mayor’s response was classic, something along the lines “I hope it’ll be OK.” Kinda like what 0 was saying today.
don’t prevail? don’t prevail? damn! bring on the torches and pitch forks! I hope we have more of this!
Yea I saw that.....babbling old fool if you ask me. I liked the big angry young men in the front of the room......they looked like they could pick up the mayor and throw him in the Ohio river.....and might very well do it!
Raceland sounds like the place where the Jesse Jackson World Shakedown Company headquarters ought to be located.
I think we also see a fundamental difference between many rank-and-file union members who favor lower taxes and the union leadership who support candidates that want higher taxes
The city is using an old trick from the retailers.
Marking up all inventory 100% and then having a 50% off everything sale.
We need tar, feathers and a railroad rail in every legislative chamber in the nation to serve as a constant reminder that THEY WORK FOR US!
If we were to use these once in awhile I wouldn’t have to waste so much time calling and writing letters and sending faxes to people who just do what it takes to continue being elected and staying in power.
LOL. That’s SERIOUS when there are shovels, pitchforks, chainsaws, etc., etc., and OH, OH — the ROLLING PIN!
PEOPLE POWER!
Great video at the link.
Thanks for posting, Morgana.
Some of the frogs are jumping out before the water comes to a full boil.
Translation: Carry through with the tax and we will leave, taking those jobs with us...
That foolish old mayor sure did look weak, saying that he hoped it would be O.K.
Bad news for them on election day I suspect.
I wish they had picked him up and thrown the Mayor in the river.
