If slaying a goat would bring the Cubs a World Series win, would you do it?
Holy Cow ... er, Goat!
A dead goat was found hanging on a statute of Harry Caray outside Wrigley Field early Monday on the North Side, and it's not the first time.
A similar incident occurred in 2007, police said.
A 911 call at about 2:40 a.m. Monday led police to the goat hanging from a rope on the arm of a statue of Harry Caray at the intersection of Clark and Addison streets, according to Town Hall District police.
Police took the goat down and disposed of the remains. It was not known how the goat died and nothing at the scene was damaged, police said.
There is not a "no trespassing" sign in the area and a surveillance camera located nearby is not set on the statue. Police said a similar incident also occurred in 2007, when a butchered goat was found hanging from the statue.
No one was arrested in Monday's incident.
The Cubs defeated the Brewers 8-5 in Milwaukee Sunday. The Cubs home opener is scheduled for later Monday when -- weather permitting -- they will play the Colorado Rockies at 1:20 p.m. at Wrigley.
On Oct. 6, 1945, the Billy Goat Curse was cast upon the Cubs when tavern owner Billy Sianis bought a box seat for his goat, Murphy, for Game 4 of the World Series at Wrigley Field to help promote his establishment. When he was ordered to remove the goat, he claimed to place a curse on the team that would prevent it from ever hosting another World Series at Wrigley Field.
The Cubs led the Series 2 games to 1 until losing to Detroit that day, 4-1, and eventually lost the Series 4-3 -- and have never returned.
Maybe they are hoping to advance the runners with a “sacrifice”.
Did the goat commit hari kari on the statue of Harry Caray?
now they’ve really jinxed themselves....
..
....oh wait.
Good one, thanks!
You didn’t make a quick trip to Chicago recently, did you? :)
I bet this made the God of Goats mad and the Cubs will be cursed for another century.
Maybe it’s a halal (food prepared in accordance with Muslim religious rites) reject. More likely, a couple of South Siders went to their local butcher and drove up north to hang this dead goat up. If the “carcass” in question is just the head, I know a couple of ethnic butchers in Chicago where these are available.
they’ll have to read it’s entrails to find out what it means.
Oy.
LOL!
Damn! Somebody call Zimmern; that’s a waste of good goat!
Not funny.
sshhh - that is a secret. (And don't be surprised if you don't see that damn goat on our next trip to DCS)
Ping to #14
Whenever a store asks for my personal mailing information, I always say 1060 W. Addison. Chicago, IL 60609. They don’t have a clue. I wonder what the Cubs do with all those Radio Shack flyers?
Sickies.
PETA will not be happy about this.
Now Jobu will be appeased.
No, just a tribute to the Rockies’ season. DOA.
I thought the idea was they needed to offer a free seat to any goat that showed up for the Cubs home opener.
.....Not kill it.
Having worked for Radio shack in the dark distant past Tandy has a really good computer that only sends out one per address. The only thing funnier is the guy that comes in all mad because something he wants is on sale this month and he didn’t get his flyer. Yup its the same guy that doesn’t give his address, they used to drop you if you stayed away for a couple of months. Radio Shack used to be a good outfit health insurance for part time employees, decent pay on commission (you did not really think they loaded you down with all the stuff to hook it up for nothing did you?) the only drawback was writing all those addresses. I worked there when they went to the last 4 digits of your phone and actual POS computers in the stores.
Here in South FL, goat is a favorite meat among several ethnic groups including but probably not limited to Haitians and other Carib islanders. Don’t know whether they do ritual slayings or just butcher them.
Maybe some mumbojumbo voodoo guy is putting a curse on the team???
Yes, yes... But where is your suit and sunglasses!
