Urging members of his own party to be just as fiscally tough as the most conservative Republicans, Obama said the $700 billion economic bailout plan proposed by the Bush administration and congressional leaders is forcing a renewed look at federal spending.

`We are here because an ethic of irresponsibility has swept through our government, leaving politicians with the belief they can waste billions and billions of your money on no-bid contracts for friends and contributors, slip pork projects into bills during the dead of night and spend billions on corporate tax breaks we can't afford and old programs we don't need,'' said Obama.

He linked the turmoil that's rocked Wall Street to federal spending he said has soared out of control, laying the blame at the feet of Republican policies he argued that rival John McCain is certain to continue.

So now that Ødumba got elected, there are so many things wrong with the liberal ways he is spending. Where's the fiscal conservatism he asked of others?

Let's see...who has been in control of spending the last three years.....who was a senator before he was president? Could he have inherited his own inheritance?

It's hard to imagine President Obama, the Democrats, or anybody else, for that matter, spending the American workers' hard earned money any more recklessly or lavishly than the Republicans did during the G. W. Bush Administration!

Thanks again, George.

The "bailout" was the plausable deniability clause ... no Dem actually voted for a tax or pork, it was just ... there ... y'know?

I mean ... what was I supposed to do? Deny America her opportunity to get back on her feet?

What a boatload of crap. Republican Bush spent evil money. but the rats can spend 3X that amount on less productive items and it is just fine and dandy. All because Bush spent some money, coerced by DemoRat majoritys in congress.

The DemoRat majority in congress voted for the $700 Billion.
They coerced Bush to sign the measure. Plus since it was a election year Bush thought it would help McCain.

A profound tactical miscalculation by Republicans. The DemoRat spin on this will be relentless.

We tried to tell them. But nooooooooo, they don’t listen to the people.

He needs to cut back on his party and visiting time.

Maybe he could do his job. Oh, I forget; he was up all night and needs his rest.

This is the campaign promise that Republicans should shove back in his face where his constituency can be reminded every time he signs another bill into law, like Bush Sr.’s read my lips
