The Vatican has blocked the appointment of Caroline Kennedy as US ambassador, according to reports.
Vatican sources told Il Giornale that their support for abortion disqualified Ms Kennedy and other Roman Catholics President Barack Obama had been seeking to appoint.
Mr Obama was reportedly seeking to reward John F Kennedy's daughter, who publicly gave her support to his election bid. She had been poised to replace Hillary Clinton as New York senator, but dropped out amid criticism that she lacked enough experience for the job.

Say what you will about the Catholic Church and it’s past scandals, but Pope Benedict was an inspired choice. He’s quietly changing the standards and psychological testing for seminarians. He understands where the “sickness” within the Church is coming from and is taking steps to make sure it’s addressed.
Rejecteding pro-abortion (let’s call it what it is) candidates for ambassdor to the Vatican is yet another indication that Pope Benedict is serious about making sure the Vatican is sending the right message.
I know someone is going to ask why he doesn’t stop Obama’s speech and honorary degree at Notre Dame, but contrary to what some believe, the Catholic Church isn’t a dictatorship.

I'm sure from Rome's perspective, this was yet another example of insulting, clueless behavior from the American Administration in its relations with Europe. The added dimension of insulting The Church and Catholics world wide just makes it a deeper, more disconcerting error.

Obama is trying to personally embarrass the Pope and is failing at it. There are pro-life, or at least silent on the issue, Democrats who could be sent? Obama is specifically not choosing them after the first couple rejections. Next step will be to just not appoint an ambassador just to make the point.

This poor girl can’t get a job basically because her resume is atrocious... Her only experience with anything has been living in seclusion her entire life, until Barry’s but boys convinced her to publicly support him.
Then she sort of ran for a vacant Senate seat with a listening tour of New York, a performance that exposed her as naive and completely unready for prime time. And now they’re trying to shove down the Vatican’s throat.
Her support was key to swinging many Democrats in the direction of Obama, a man who may be even more naive than she is, so he should obviously be thanking her for making him the Dozehole-in-Chief... but insulting the Vatican by offering her as his rep was a pathetic and amateur move, like many of the decisions by this newbie administration.
I’m not too worried, I don’t think Caroline will be on food-stamps any time soon. She should just go back to what she does best... living in seclusion.
I’m not sure if it’s outrageous incompetency of the Obama Administration or intentionally insulting behavior intended to demean and insult everyone.
Either way - Obama, the DNC and the Congressional Black Caucus are great threats to the Republic.

I don’t know why this “uptown girl” Kennedy would want any public office. Almost every Kennedy to hold one, or in the public eye has met with some disaster, tragedy and/or scandal. I would think she would be content to stay in seclusion, and be thankful to have a peaceful life out of public view. Some people are never grateful for what they have. Ya know.
I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one thinking the same thing. She was rejected by the Pope because of her and her family's pro-choice position, not because her husband is Jewish.
