WASHINGTON (AP) - "but as a matter of law, it's more like the aftermath of a bank robbery gone bad."

"Whether a U.S. citizen is taken hostage at a downtown bank branch or on the high seas, federal authorities can claim the authority to capture suspects and prosecute them in U.S. courts."

Piece explains why FBI is on site with the USS Bainbridge and others involved in resolving the SS Maersk Alamaba incident ongoing. Piracy is something we do not deal with, apparently, in lieu of the chosen methodology described by this piece. Big mistake, just another in an increasingly long line of mistakes.

Yes, like Clinton, Obama views this as a law enforcement issue. Very sad. This should have been resolved swiftly. Now the government lawyers will get involved.

Uh, Jefferson would go there half-assed, tail hanging out, and use force inadequate to the task at hand.

Leastwise that's what he did.

Obama will just keep piling warships up until the lifeboat is surrounded. There is no idea what he will do beyond that.

Agreed. The better question would be; What would Jackson do? He would go in shooting, immediately hang any pirate that survived the assault, burn the Somali coast, and then the US Congress to F**K itself. We should gather a collection to send H. W. Brands' book Andrew Jackson His Life and Times to every US general and admiral. If you have not read it yet, do.

That might make someone feel bad. Can't have that.

I want to know why a SEAL team hasn't already resolved this.

The French commandos at least gave it a shot at their pirate situation, though it's unclear exactly how one civilian died.

Jefferson must have got it right because we haven’t had a pirate attack in 200 years.

Anybody who starts talking about working with the international community when stuff like this happens is a whuss.

A lot of people on FR dinegrate the French military but they take action to prtect their people.

An emergency meeting of the UN’s security council should be called immediately.

This piracy crap has to stop and there needs to be a very strong resolution passed to send a message of the seriousness of this situation. Failure to stop these illegal actions may result in serious consequences. /s

From Andre Pachter today: http://chinaconfidential.blogspot.com/2009/04/obama-tested-by-3-hostage-crises.html#links

“As of this writing, U.S. President Barack Obama is facing three simultaneous hostage crises—and showing weakness on all fronts.

Two American reporters are being held in North Korea.

An Iranian-American journalist is being held in Iran.

And an American merchant marine captain is being held—by Muslim pirates—off the coast of Somalia.

All this is being played out in the wake of the President’s unprecedented bow to the King of Saudi Arabia—a deep, submissive bow from the waist, captured by video and still cameras but initially ignored by the mainstream media.

Not since the catastrophic Carter administration, which betrayed Iran’s Shah, allowed Americans to be taken and held hostage in Tehran—and allowed an Iranian-controlled, ideologically-motivated, American hit man, an African-American convert to Islam, to escape the U.S. after gunning down a former Iranian diplomat in the doorway of his Bethesda, MD suburban home—has the U.S. appeared so helpless and vulnerable in the face of foreign aggression.

Not since the 1930s has the world seen such appeasement, experienced such economic and financial turmoil. Back then, the U.S. was led by Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Confined to a wheelchair, he beat the Axis and the Great Depression.

Is Barack Hussein Obama capable of defeating the Great Recession and the Axis of Nuclear Evil? Extremely doubtful. BHO is no FDR.”

He's shown exactly the sort of weakness his Leftwingtard followers and syncophants think so exemplary.

Before this is over I fear this nation is going to have to drive the Leftwingtards into the sea.
