With tornadoes bearing down on your home, there is no escaping damage or total destruction in many cases.
If give a choice between a large tornado coming at our home or business, or a large earthquake, I'll take the earthquake any day of the week.
Best of luck to those in the path of these things.
Just saw some footage on the noon FOX news broadcast, the damage looked pretty bad, where ever it was ... still dark when it was shot, though. Reporting from Atlanta, so I thought it was in that vicinity, but apparently not.
LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas
At least three people were killed and two dozen injured on Thursday night when a tornado smashed through Mena, Arkansas, officials said on Friday.
Mena sounds familiar.

things going nuts now
north side of Murfreesboro TN just hit
Prayers to all in harms way.
Looks like we might be a little south of all the main action down here in Montgomery, but still close enough for a cell to pop up. Gonna be a long afternoon and night, especially for those in Birmingham, Huntsville, Chattanooga, Atlanta, etc
I am just a touch south-west of Knoxville, winds are kicking pretty good right now, will update if anything happens in my neck of the woods (providing I still have power.)

Reports of widespread damage across the Northern portions of Murfreesboro including people trapped and houses destroyed
“Emergency services are responding to reports that people are trapped in Murfreesboro, Tenn. after tornado hits; homes destroyed.”
http://twitter.com/BreakingNews
I'd take the tornado. You often get a few minutes of warning, and a tornado does not impact an entire region.
Promoted this thread to Breaking News now that a PDS statement has been issued.
Trying to reach my brother and his family who live in that area. So far, no luck. If anybody hears the specific neighborhoods affected, please post that information.
any more details? we have family there.
The real problem is people think they’ve been in big quakes, but they really haven’t.
There’s a reason you don’t need specific tornado insurance, but earthquake insurance is an enormous added cost.
In the long term, the number of deaths and amount of dollar damage from earthquakes in the US is going to make the same for tornadoes look like a joke. The problem is the quakes are going to be concentrated in a few catostrophic events, and we haven’t had those events yet.
The tornado went through the North side of Murfreesboro.
That is radio out of Murfreesboro, I believe they have a ‘listen live’ feature.
sitting here in Buckhead waiting on some “weather”... .
Yep. Imagine another series of 8.0 quakes along the New Madrid fault line - that would be far more devastating than another 8.0 akin to Ft. Tejon, give the energy would be transmitted through solid, unfractured rock for long distances. But the worst would be another 9.0 like they estimate happend off the coast of Washington back in 1700. Seattle would be obliterated and the tsunamis could be massive.
Shoot, I am supposed to be taking my daughter to see her favorite band, Sugarland, at Gwinnett Arena (just north of ATL) tonight at 7:30. Not good.
Just talked to my SIL. They are OK, no property damage. They are without electricity. They live in Thompson Place off Thompson Lane north of US-41. However, they saw the tornado touch down just a little north of them in the Primm Lane / Primm Estates. The storm also hit the Memorial Blvd (US 231) Osborne Lane area. Osborne Lane is north of State Farm on US 231. Cell phones are not working, but they were able to call on their land line.
They think the tornado touched down over on Medical Center Pkwy near The Avenue too, but info about that area is not as concrete at the moment.
looks like the tornadic weather from Murfreesboro is going north east toward Charlotte.
Could you be more specific as to a road etc that brother lives at.
We’re in the middle of it, now. Hope it passes, soon.
damage around the national Battle of Murfreesboro, Wilkenson drive or whatever.
They live on Pennington in Thompson Place. I’ve talked to them now. They saw the tornado touch down north of them and there is heavy damage north of them.
I am 10 miles north of the outbreak area. The sun is out and the energy has passed by. I-24 west is closed somewhere from the Medical Center pkw and Church exits.
Emergency personnel reported several houses were hit in the Compton Lane area after a violent storm ripped through Rutherford County between 12:30 and 1 p.m. today. The Penny Lane area seems to be hit hard.

A person was reported trapped off Haynes Drive with his or her house demolished, according to police scanner.
Another entrapment was reported at Cornwall.
Rescue workers requested that Wilkinson be shut down at Thompson Lane.
A Murfreesboro Fire Department fire fighter reports he was called in to work today to help with the emergencies. It’s the first time in his eight years on the job, he’s been called back in, he reported.
Thx, I am going to go put Weather Channel on and see where we are in relation to the predicted path of these storms. I hope I don’t have to tell her we can’t go.
Go! You’ll be fine. I wish I were going.
Thanks for the heads up.

Scary updates... prayers up for those in the path of this weather. I have a cousin and his wife near Huntsville, used to live in Madison but may have moved to a nearby community.
I-24 closed at Medical Center Pkwy and at 840. Nobody allowed into damaged area at Medical Center Pkwy but emergency responders.
I live in what we call “The real Buckhead”, outside of Madison, Ga. Cloudy here, hubby is out cutting grass.
Where did you find this info?
MTMC in Murfreesboro is calling in all surgeons in the area.
I’m guessing she’s got a scanner.
I just talked to my daughter in Nashville (via email)...she said it was scarey; looks like Nashville is clearing a little and the storms are moving east.
She moved to TN after she competed in Murfreesboro at the Collegiate National Equestrian competition with her University. She loves it up there, but says this weather is pretty scarey.
Waiting additional word, if she provides any details I will update for others who are interested/concerned about the situation there.
