How not to measure temperature
Chico Enterprise Record, Whats Up With That? ^ | 5/26/07 | Anthony Watts

Posted on 04/09/2009 8:17:53 PM PDT by Freepmanchew

I'm surveying climate stations of record around California and documenting their condition as part of a larger project I'm doing. You'll see more about it here in the near future.

Today I visited Marysville's Fire Station, just off Hwy 70 at 9th and B Street, where they have the station of record for the city using the MMTS electronic sensor installed by the National Weather Service. The data from this station is part of the USHCN (US Historical Climatological Network) and is used in the computer modeling used to predict climate change.

The Marysville station is located behind the fire department building on a patio and is probably the worst site visited so far. In addition to the sensor being surrounded by asphalt and concrete, its also within 10 feet of buildings, and within 8 feet of a large metal cell tower that could be felt reflecting sunlight/heat. And worst of all, air conditioning units on the cell tower electronics buildings vent warm air within 10 feet of the sensor.

Ok, this is my first post, and I know this is an old story. However, I have been lurking around here for over 6 years and now just signed up about two weeks ago. I checked to see if this was ever posted before and it came up blank. I guess it could be so old it was removed, I do not know how long Jim keeps old stories.

Read this story and then go to this web site and you will see how they have manipulated and cooked the numbers to get the results they wanted.

Problems and Concerns with Temperature data

When are we going to just start picking up our pitch forks and storming the capital? I for one will be out loud and angry on the 15th.

Ok, not so angry as to cause any undo bad publicity, but I am angry just the same. That is why I stopped lurking and finally signed up.

It’s hot. They need money to cool it down.

Do you remember ever hearing this back in “07” when the report and study was done?

The ground based weather stations are no longer valid data sources. The satellite systems are the source of all valid temperature data for the entire world now.

They show there's been very little change in temperature for the last decade until 2008 when things dropped right off the chart into the coming Ice Age category.

We have some archived boards about how bad the ground based stations have become. Even Hansen had to give them up so he dropped both South America and Africa from the world global climate models.

I read about it last century. The same people said we were headed into an ice age.

Its a Good post because it Reminds us of the Climate change “modeling” information the Media is witholding from the Public.....because items like this are buried....hoping no one digs them up.
Sorta like the “How many molecules of CO2 are there in 1,000 molecules of normal atmosphere ?” question that Al Gore dodges and will not answer.

Ans: 38 per 1,000 less than 1 %

The satellite systems are the source of all valid temperature data for the entire world now.

And we are supposed to believe that these satellites systems are not manipulated, because they are trustworthy people who control the data?

I'm sorry, but I have grown to distrust any data controlled by the Government. Call me wacko, but I lost confidence in our government a long, long time ago.

Well, let's see ~ temperature is reportedly declining worldwide.

I can trust that.

About this time every 100,000 years are so we are, in fact, headed into an Ice Age ~ it's happened 20 times in a row with great regularity. There's absolutely no evidence that it's not going to happen again.

So, yeah, we are heading into an Ice Age.

Ain’t gonna’ happen. Poster yesterday noted that the Sun has several different “phases”, and it’s just flipped into the one that makes stuff colder.

During the winter, when several sites recorded all time lows, the records were invalidated because the stations were improperly calibrated. They cook the books to get the result they want, but when the result is not what they wanted, suddenly they discover that there are problems with the equipment. Given what we know about these data stations, it is possible that the actual temps were even lower than what was recorded.

I am still looking, but I remember reading a story about a year ago that Russia pulled their Siberian monitoring stations out.

How much do you think the average world temp will raise without Siberia being calculated in?

If anyone can help find the story it would be great. I read it sometime in early to mid "08". I cannot remember if it was an American paper or not, but I sure would like to find it now.

Welcome aboard, officially. It’s good to be reminded of these things because manipulating data or history seems to be a pasttime of those who don’t like today.

I must say, however, that I hope these TEA parties don’t devolve into some all-encompassing rant against everything liberal, like anarchists do against everything conservative. I hope they will stay focused on taxation and that other means are devised to work on the global warming hoax, the sorry state of public education, the welfare fraud, the election fraud. We need to focus a laser point on each issue, one at a time, to be effective in getting out our word.

I regret that I will be driving 800 miles straight through that day so I will miss my local and my destination events. But I will be participating any way I can afterwards.

Cheers, Freepmanchew, and welcome. Anthony Watts has done some great work exposing chicanery in NOAA's temperature recording stations.

First of all welcome to freep. Second, this story reminds me of that global warming protest in D.C. during a snow day. I mean least they can do is postponed it till the temperature is warmer. Third, more power to you and thank you for participating in one of the tea parties, I bet you the MSM will really cover the tea parties (sarcastically).

I believe you are two orders of magnitude off.

There are 380 molecules of CO2 per 1,000,000 molecules of atmosphere, meaning there are 38 per 100,000.

You can model it on your 1024x768 pixel computer screen.
There are 786,432 pixels. Make a nice blue screen, and make a random number generator to put 786,432 * 380 / 1,000,000 = 299 black pixels randomly located on your screen to represent CO2 molecules.

Thanks for the correction.....380 per 100,000......my blackberry couldn’t handle that big a number, which makes CO2 content even more of a bit player.
I was brainwashed over time by the greenies, and I lost some decimal positions.....Its the Gore effect....

In Oct. of 2008.....The Russians sent the Sept. temps for OCT.
October Nasa numbers for Siberia repeated Sept. needless to say NASA posted continued record warmth....Quality control did not catch it....a Scientist outside of NASA caught the huge error....but the Media reports were already out....no retractions of bogus reports after the discovery.
