We force-feed hunger strikers in Gitmo everyday, that’s not a negotiation.

Sorry, but force feeding has nothing to do with the IRA story.

So now, what makes you think that Thatcher gave into the demand of terrorists and that she wanted to recognize that fact that the UK was at War with the IRA?

why didn’t the Brits go public with this at the time

Good point. I'm sure someone better informed than I could address that question with a reasonable response.

However, it would still be speculative, as all our responses to the contentions of this article are speculative: the fact that what is proposed is reasonable/possible does not mean that it's the truth of the historical situation.

... and very few people seemed to understand what I meant.

Happens to me all the time. It's tough being too old for basic social communication, isn't it?

When i was a kid, I delivered all the available paper routes, and read every paper. I’m not sure it’s a matter of us being old, I think others are less informed.

There, that feels better, doesn’t it?

I wish you and yours a very happy Easter!

Weird. I have actual Irish relatives living near Dingle. They really really hate the IRA. Of course, they aren’t Irish-Americans who learn their “facts” secondhand from fundraisers and movies.
