Via TheObamaFile, Al Jazeera originally reported the actual phrase when the President was speaking to the Turkish parliament. The original story, now scrubbed, can be seen here (as stored on TheObamaFile’s site) with the following original verbiage:
Al Jazeera’s Anita McNaught, reporting from Istanbul, said: “This was the address we had all been waiting for, it hit all the right notes.
“He talked about the contribution of the Islamic faith in the life of American Muslims and then he personalised that message by saying ‘I know because I am one of them‘. It was a message that reached out to many today.
“Of course it needs to be followed up by actions and by discernible policy changes.” [emphasis mine]
The above has since been replaced, here, with the following:

Obama has complimented Islam for the influence it has had in the US .... the only one I can think of is thier assistance in Establishing our Navy in 1803? Which, of course, was a reaction to the Barbary Pirates!
I doubt that he is a Muslim, Christian or anything else. I think he is Godless like most Communists. Having said that, I’ll wager he has more living relatives who are Muslim than he has who are not. As for Christianity, twenty years in Rev Wright’s Church won’t lead you to Heaven, but they will teach you to hate America.
Yup. He never said he was Muslim. Not that I’d believe him one way or the other. He’s a secular politician, which most of them are. Why would anyone believe what any of them tell us. We’d be suckers if we did.
What’s more telling is that he was a member of a “church” that taught black liberation theology (and I use the term “theology” advisedly). It’s not like he ever attended a real church in Chicago. He was just putting in a regular appearance to “shmooze” with the constituency.
The quote, which is available in various forms from lots of different sources (check Google news) is something along these lines,

Not exactly as was represented in the original posting. Telling the truth is pretty important. If the conservative side doesn’t do it, who will?

Of course, it is only a strongly held suspicion on my part...but yes, I do believe he is a devout muslim of some kind. In fact, it is said (by Kristoff IIRC) that Obama can recite the shahadah (muslim profession of faith) in flawless Arabic.
That works for me.
I told a poster yesterday that he worded that oddly, so that in English, it meant that he was one of the people who lived in a Muslim majority nation.
But translated into Arabic it would be “I am a muslim”.
I also suspect that the “respect for the Islamic world” translated into submission as well.
He words things oddly for a reason.

The interview flub was Stephanopoulos’ fault, as he misinterpreted the point that the Obama-lama was making. “You’re absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith ...” was an acknowledgment that McCain had never been one of the ones making the accusation. Stephanopoulos mistook it as a statement Obama was making about himself.
There are a thousand-and-one issues to criticize the self-deified commander-in-chief, but let’s stick to the ones that are grounded in reality, shall we?

Well, I’ll take your word that you think that. If he is a Muslim, he is doing an awfully good job of denying it by his actions (abortion being a gold standard). Islam is not a great friend of abortion, or a number of other secular philosophies for that matter.
I personally think he’s just a socialist, and that doesn’t leave a lot of room for Islam. Guys like this (Obama) are the kind of people that should worry Muslims and Christians, a lot.

I don’t give sh!t what Snopes says, I have watched that interview over and over again. Obama clearly and plainly says “my muslim faith”. George quickly corrects him, but why should he...Obama said what he meant.

17. He continues to try and block the production of coal (45% of our electric generating capability)
18. And the piece de resistance - he actually bowed to a Saudi King. In the muslim world that is a gesture of submission and deference. Obama did not do this when he met Queen Elizabeth, he shook her hand. But he BOWS to King Abdullah. King Abdullah DID NOT bow back - 'nuff said.
What else will this traitor do to destroy us? Its only been 3 months!!!

However, Louie Farrakhan has gone so far as to proclaim Obama the messiah (and I can only assume he means the muslim messiah since he, Louie, is a muslim). On the other hand, I'm not sure if Louie is a recognized authority on islamic eschatology.;-)

Actually, they've had a huge influence. If it hand't been for slavery, where the Mudslimes and their African allies did all the slave catching and the Mudslimes did all the slave selling to Europeans, we'd have a far smaller Afro-American population.
