The United States said Monday it would donate 50,000 dollars in emergency aid to Italy after a powerful earthquake killed at least 100 people.

And one more thing, if the big zero isn’t going to do it right, don’t do it at all!
Mr. Obama doesn’t like Italians or Catholics, all that much!
$50,000 is an insult.
They could have sent an iPod, or maybe DVDs
Maybe the President could use one of his weekly Wednesday night parties to raise a little “dough” for the Italians in need, or just forego serving that expensive beef to the Congresscritters when they come to call and use the money saved to help the rescue effort. $50,000, it’s an insult to even offer that paltry a sum.
This must be wrong .....
FWIW - Italy has “refused” aid for know. Not needed, they are well prepared for emergencies. They will likely need and want help later when the initial search/rescue/relief actions are completed.
The President must be taking courses from the Joe Biden School of Charity and Compassion.

$50K?
And we’re giving palastine HOW much????
Is this a delayed April Fools’ joke?
(Please, please, please, tell me this isn’t for real.)
The good news is, the Italian American community and other private interests will have kicked in ten times that much by the end of the week.
Italiani, avete amici americani. Ma Obama no e un de loro.
How much did they send for Katrina and Rita? Would be interesting to find out. If they didn’t send anything, I wouldn’t have any problem letting their own taxpayers handle it.
Man, you aren’t kiddin’
When I saw that, I wanted to hide my head in shame.
What’s that, maybe 2 hours of running Air Force One? He should have taken the crew over on Michelle’s broomstick.
And now as I glance over, I see his mug on television, once again. He just won’t leave us alone or shut up, will he? Now he is lecturing us on global warming.
Honest to goodness, I wish someone would pass him some bad fish.
O's scraping the change jar at the mint. It's all we have left after his spending!
Perhaps Italy did not offer enough troops for Afghanistan and this is his “gottcha” event.
That is a bad investment in my opinion.
The stupidity is making the public statement.
Either say nothing at all or offer something useful like emergency materials, blankets, clothes, tents, etc.
$50k is just insulting.
“O’s scraping the change jar at the mint”
This would be really funny if it weren’t true. Another day...Another disgrace.
Over a million dollars to find out why pigs are so stinky and $50k to a deadly earthquake to an ally.
I hope Europe is paying attention.
I hope all the Europe lovers are paying attention.
$900 million.
Obama hates Eyetalians because they are giving the boot to a lot of muslims.
As I remember it, the tab for Air Force One is $53,000 per hour.
We are only going to be the first ones to get sick of him.
As time goes on, and his egocentric mug can’t stay out of photoops and speeches and magazine stands but things are yet getting worse out there, people will notice.
I’ll be perfectly honest and unPC here, I feel bad for the majority of blacks who are going to be saddened by their one representative doing this. Seriously, there are sooo many black people who are so more qualified and not a damn nut, but here’s the One. Some will never see him as anything but a Messiah, but alot are going to figure out sooner or later, he’s full of crap like the rest of the politicians.
LOL!
Mind you, this is one of the original members of NATO, our ALLIES!
Gonna be a long four years.
just sayin...
change (as in cents) you can believe in...........
I dunno about that. It depends entirely on the state of the emergency. (Yeah, I know that sounds odd, but hear me out.)
$50K goes a long way in most non-American Civil Defense organizations, if it is only funding day-to-day operations. That would pay the salaries for 1 1/2 FTE for one year: not bad. Or it would buy a fully-equipped 4x4 (used but refurbished). Not bad at all.
When a real emergency happens, it usually starts as a local response. Whatever the local city has budgeted for Civil Defense Emergency Management is spent as a part of the ordinary operations. Fire, Ambulance, and Police all participate as best they can, with costs falling pari passu.
Things change when the local city cannot manage the emergency without having extra powers. When that happens, a Civil Defense Emergency is declared. This means that the Civil Defense operations of the city get a whole bunch of extra powers. And it means that the city will pick up the costs for the Police, Fire, Ambulance -- everyone participating in the response.
So when this happens, the Civil Defense organization gets access to some very deep pockets: whatever the city can afford by borrowing, taxing, cashing in on investments &tc. But sometimes that isn't enough.
Deeper pockets are available if the emergency gets declared Regionally. A regional authority takes control of the emergency, takes the extra powers (eg the power to commandeer property &tc) and the Regional authority also picks up the costs for everybody. So even deeper pockets available -- all of this without requiring any overseas funding.
Similarly, if it is a huge disaster, a National Emergency can be declared. The nation takes control of the emergency, and the emergency powers, and agrees to pay for everything. The entire wealth of the nation is available to pay to get things sorted out.
So in this case we're talking about Italy, a member of the EU. They will have a structure in place similar to the one that I have just described. They will also be accustomed to dealing with Civil Defense emergencies -- volcanoes in the south of Italy, for example.
How much US aid do you think they would need? Presumably they would be able to draw on the EU for some help. $50,000 is a bit of a token amount, but probably a token amount is sufficient in this case.
I could be wrong but I do not think this is the “normal” aid. This was emergency funding offered by our embassy in Italy. So I tend to think this was $$ they had on hand. However it should have been backed up by some other $$ through normal aid channels as I’m sure we give Italy money like we seem to give everyone in the world money.
What I found worse than this was Obama’s silly statement about hoping we could send rescuers. Italy is not a third world country with no EMS Obama. In fact I would think because of lots of mountainous/dangerous regions that several countries in Europe have experienced emergency rescuers. Besides which the time to get anyone over there from the US would render it useless.
Would they have refused 5 million?
$50,000? So we’re sending them one fairly well-equipped sports car?
Insane!
How much did they send for Katrina and Rita?
I think it was $83 billion, huge amounts of which were scammed. And some of those helped are still on the dole.
Would they have refused 5 million?
From the news I heard, they are currently refusing "all" aid.
As I said, thier infrastructure is quite good on the first response - it is the recovery part where the will likely need/want help ...
Meanwhile within seconds after the tsunami of 2004, the left was screaming that Bush and the US had not responded fast enough. Of course most of them probably blamed Bush because of all the “climate change” he had brought about in 4 years.
How much did ACORN get earlier this year?
It was meant to be an insult, just as those gifts to the British PM and Queen were meant to be insult.
Let’s see what he gives third world leaders as gifts.
I heard they refused search teams and search dogs. Still 50k is insulting and makes us look cheap.
One the plus side its more than BO wants to spend on the military.
They are all “typical white people” ... they can fend for themselves...
I saw the $50K thing yesterday and thought, “Gee, that’s about $50 per person.”
I am ashamed of this country, and want to apologize on its behalf to the citizens of Italy.
This is Holy Week and I’d love to curse The 0ne, but I’ll refrain.
Never did see him go into any church during this visit. Even in Prague.
Maybe he’ll send over food kits. You know, the ones with the tainted peanut butter that he sent to the ice storm victims.
I hear some Arab countries have pledged millions.
Is that typical for the Arab countries? Or are they trying to draw attention to how chintzy Obama is?
Didn't you hear our Esteemed President in Turkey today? America is not a Christian country.
What did The 0ne give the Turkish president?
Well, only if you compare it to the $900,000 we gave Hamas after their earthquake.
It’s easy. Italy is European, mostly White, and mostly Christian. That’s all you need to know.
The bitter hatred of the country’s first affirmative action president is now obvious.
This is an insult to the Italian people. Better not to have offered a penny than $50K.
What did The 0ne give the Turkish president?
