"So, that's what Democratic senators are starting to look at is there have been markets where we're number one in the market where they were going to drop the format," Miller said."

A radio station that's number one in their market so they drop the format? That'll be the day.

"Stephanie Miller is a major dimbulb. I remember when she was still doing stand-up. Simply one of the unfunniest human beings on the planet."

That might be true most of the time, but this line - "I have to tell you, I brought ratings information. And people like me and Ed Schultz are consistently beating conservative shows in many, many markets" - was comedy gold.

Of course it’s because they can’t compete. These idiots are so far into denial or their own version of reality that they don’t realize that if it brings in advertisers and their money, the station will put it on? And advertisers want an audience that will spend. Not sandal-wearing, greasy-haired cheapskates.

Hey Stephanie,

Did you hear that Rush Limbaugh had a problem with pain killers? Really, it's true. You should try something you haven't a thousand times before, and use that piece of information sometime to try to discredit him. It'll be effective. You won't look at all petty or small. Nobody will conclude that you really have nothing of substance to say. The next time Limbaugh is the topic, mention the drugs.

Radio advertising is down across the board. I know this because I have been very recently relieved of my duties at a family owned circle of stations in the Albany, NY market. I was responsible for scheduling commercials and programmming. From my observations, the owners are not exactly to blame. They just tried to find niches and fill them with advertisers. The owner is a Catholic, business-minded, fairly conservative man.
On the one AM talk spot they own, WROW AM, the morning show - conservative to every degree - beat the pants off of the afternoon drive liberal show. We have tons of mom and pop advertisers here, and they learn where their dollars are best spent. On the FM side, family-friendly stations fare much better than the hip-hop and grunge stations.
Air-America and the like just can't admit that their shows are drags on stations and do not draw profitable advertisers.
Crap, I hope this post is informative...it's late and I'm tired.

No, silly. You don’t have bright lights and glitz and glamor on talk radio, that’s why the lib’s message isn’t getting through. They can’t logically defend what they think without advertising tricks.

As the daughter of upstate GOP Congressman William E. Miller, Stephanie Miller’s Republican cred couldn’t be much better. In 1964, when she was 3 years old, her father ran for vice president on the Republican ticket alongside conservative hero Barry Goldwater.

But Stephanie Miller’s ambitions were not political. She wanted to be a comedian like her idol, Carol Burnett. And after majoring in theater at the University of Southern California, she landed her first professional radio gig. In the mid-1980s, Rochesterians got to know her as Sister Sleaze, sidekick to Brother Wease.

Politics gradually crept back into her life, but it wasn’t conservative politics. Two decades and several incarnations later, Miller is the hottest voice in liberal radio.

Miller was too young during the 1964 Goldwater-Miller campaign to remember it. But she knows they lost in a landslide to Lyndon Johnson and Hubert Humphrey.

She finds it ironic that Republicans of that era might look like liberals compared to Republicans today.

“I think my dad and Goldwater would be appalled at what’s become of their party,” says Miller. “Goldwater was pro-gay-rights and pro-choice. He talked about the undue influence of the religious right. And that was back in the 1980’s.”

******

MAYBE THAT’S WHY HE LOST!!!

******

When the family members get together, they often argue about what their father would think of current issues. Miller says her two sisters, who have always been Republicans, have become disgusted with the party. They both voted for Kerry. Her brother, who remains a Republican, has grown apolitical.

Miller, who grew up in Lockport, attended Catholic schools.

“It had the same effect it has on everybody,” she says. “It makes you raunchy and rebellious. Catholic school is such an easy target for comedy, but I will say that’s become one of the themes of my show: taking back God, taking back moral values. That’s one of the things I find people on the left so offended by.” Miller herself no longer practices religion.

As successful as Miller’s show is, liberal radio is fighting an uphill battle in terms of ratings. The Rush Limbaughs of the world still dominate on hundreds of stations around the country. Air America, the liberal talk network featuring Al Franken, recently declared bankruptcy.

Miller points out that her show, which is syndicated by Jones Radio Networks, is not part of Air America.

“Capitalism is kind of hitting progressive talk,” says Miller. “Air America is bankrupt, so I think the expectation is they’re going to go away, but progressive talk isn’t. Progressive talk is having some growing pains, but the good shows that get ratings will make it.”

The problem with the progressive format, she believes, lies more with a lack of understanding about radio than with the liberal slant of the shows. Miller bemoans the fact that people who have never done radio, like Mario Cuomo and Jim Hightower, are put in front of microphones and are expected to win over audiences.

“Fox News viewers are a particular kind of crazy,” says Miller. “There are some right-wing freaks out there. That’s what Keith Olbermann was saying” in a commentary on his MSNBC show.

“I’m not saying nobody on the left ever does anything wrong,” says Miller, “but there is a particular strain these days that, as [Olbermann] says, comes from the top of the Bush administration -— the bullying and fear mongering and trying to suppress dissent, threatening to kill me if I don’t agree with them.”

“Olbermann’s not saying President Bush orders it or condones it,” says Miller, “but it’s the kind of environment they’ve created. You’ve got the president, before the election, saying if you vote for Democrats, the terrorists win, America loses.”

“Comedians tend to be truth-tellers,” says Miller. “For a time now, we just seem to have the facts on our side. We’re at a point where all the good comedy targets are on the right.”

“WINZ has not made money as long as it’s been progressive. The reasons are simple. The audience for the format is very loyal but small...”

Thanks for this update. This is a local station that I have avoided like the plague, especially after one morning I had the misfortune of hearing the contrived, fawning reviews of Obama's "race speech" last year (when he was trying to shake off the Wright controversy). IIRC I think the revered, hushed tones and sounds of Kleenex being passed around were coming from this Stephanie Whoever's show.

The link also indicates that demented harpy Randi Rhodes lost syndication too. Sweet schadenfreude, you gotta love it!

You know it, and their lbieral ranters as well as the stations will go the way of the rest of the liberal ranters. CNN, MSNBC, Newspapers, ABCNBCCBS, most of the alphabet soup, and on and on and on.

We have a lefty radio station in Buffalo, I sometimes tune in to see how long I can last. 45 seconds of total insipid nonsense is about my record. The stuff is absolutely unlistenable. I suspect that THAT may be the real problem.

Eddie Schultz isn't going to like that. Of course, he's just been given his own TV show. How's Miller doing? LOL!

Stephanie Miller is watching Fox News, as she does every night, looking for laughs.

“It’s like Comedy Central for liberals,” says the Los Angeles radio host. “They don’t know they’re funny — they just are. It’s a right-wing freak show.”

Talkers magazine — which gave Air America’s Al Franken its Freedom of Speech award — suggests that left-wing hosts are gaining a foothold in a conservative-dominated field.

As recently as 2000, Miller hosted a popular show on Los Angeles’ KABC but had trouble getting syndicated, and then, she says, “I was fired for being too liberal.” (She also says the station didn’t like the “racy content” of her show, where she sometimes referred to male callers as “love puppet” and “stud monkey.”) There was, she concluded, no place for liberals in a talk radio world dominated by Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.

Miller isn’t delicate when it comes to language. She told listeners last week that the argument by Hannity and Bill O’Reilly that “we’re the only ones who support the troops” is “making me projectile-vomit.” She gloats that “the Republicans have their panties in a twist” over this or that issue. She challenges the veracity of some conservatives with a jingle called “Lying Sack of Crap.”

Why does she spend so much time deconstructing Fox hosts, to the point of constantly chiding O’Reilly for selling “no spin” mugs and jackets? When prodded, she admits she admires their skills as broadcasters.

“I’m sure they get that we’re promoting their shows,” Miller says. “O’Reilly is laughing all the way to the bank.”

"it’s failed in markets like Boston"

I've often wondered if the reason behind the constant reelection of nutbag Lefties, like Kennedy, Kerry, etc., in Massachusetts, was due to massive vote fraud, as opposed to the state's residents simply being Bolsheviks.

Your comment makes me even more suspicious.

There is nothing that could make me believe a load of crap like that, that someone could tire of the Republican party and vote for Kerry. It’s just inane and impossible.
She’s a liar, but then, she’s a lib. But I repeat myself

Stephanie Miller is an embarrassment to her father’s legacy. The Libs with Republican heritage are only prominent to demean their roots. Miller wouldn’t get ANY attention if she weren’t William Miller’s daughter. Same as Ron Reagan (not the) Junior.
