It is a "group of islands close to continental Europe" which is "slightly smaller than Oregon". Or at least, that's the White House view of Britain.
A briefing booklet presented to journalists accompanying Barack Obama on his trip to the G20 meeting in London paints a slightly parochial picture of the United Kingdom, its history and its political leaders.
And despite constant talk of the "special relationship" between Britain and America, the guide also describes France as "America's oldest ally" who was "instrumental in helping Britain's American colonies establish independence".
Last night Barack Obama landed at Stansted airport in Essex and was met by Alistair Darling, the Chancellor, and his wife. He was then flown by Marine One, the presidential helicopter, to Regent's Park where he is staying at the residence of the United States Ambassador to London.
The President will meet Gordon Brown for breakfast in Downing Street this morning followed by a joint press conference. At the same time Michelle Obama will accompany Sarah Brown to a cancer centre in London.
The President will also hold a 30 minute discussion with David Cameron at lunchtime.
Mr Obama and his wife will then travel the short distance to Buckingham Palace for what is being described as an "informal, formal meeting" with the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh.
Later this afternoon the Queen will host a reception for all the leaders and their spouses, along with finance ministers and central bankers.
This evening Gordon Brown and his wife Sarah will host a Downing Street dinner for the leaders and their spouses. The meal will be cooked by Jamie Oliver and the guest list will also include prominent British women including JK Rowling, Naomi Campbell, Martha Lane Fox, Dame Kelly Holmes and Ruth Jones, from the sitcom Gavin

This has got to be another calculated snub.
One word: "Mau-Mau". Obama's putative daddy will have been a junior, boyhood member of the movement, or a legacy. Obama is Mau-Mau'ing the Brits on purpose, suggesting that he thinks of a "new" (non-European) America as taking over from the "old", whitebread America (living on toleration henceforward, until consigned to the ovens at some point), and he's taking that attitude to Europe as a big message.
He's doing global ethnic-revenge politics on our nickel.

I continue to be mystified by how stupid this administration is and how the UK is repeatedly attempting to gather information that lets them know should they put their neck out there for us. And the answer is NO.
This whole administration is a disgrace. I hope he makes such an ass of himself and the press in Europe have a field day with it. I don’t want America to look bad, but I want them to see what we have seen all along. Obama is a baffoon.
