Because it depicts Muhammad being dragged into hell by a demon.
Respect Europe's culture and history? Pah! It is all worthless trash, jahiliyya! Eurabia Alert: "Corridors of Power in Milan, Italy: Bad Manners, Bad Intentions and More," by Roland Flamini in World Politics Review, March 27 (thanks to Creeping Sharia):
ISLAMIC PROTEST -- Visitors to the magnificent church of St. Petronio in Bologna are now searched by Italian police before entering because in addition to protests by Muslims offended by a depiction of Mohammed in a 14th-century fresco, there have been unsuccessful attempts to blow the painting up.

Europe asked for it — they let them in, in droves. Now they have to live in the hole they dug. Australia is far smarter than the rest of the world combined.
bad manners??
these people mean to destroy your nation, culture, people, liberty, history and faith and replace it with 7th century barbarism.
manners?
The truth hurts.
I’m sorry, but muslims are just stupid. what else can one say? It seems mohammad needs LOTS of defending.
Is that Satan talking to mad mo?
Don’t be sorry.
machomet or baphomet?
“Is that Satan talking to mad mo?”
They are comparing notes.
Can’t quite put my finger on why this angers me so, you’d have to go back 400 years to find a Catholic in my family, not an Italian bone in my body that I’m aware. But, these deluded, possessed fools are playing with fire. Not all of European Christendom is lukewarm and watered down.
Helen Thomas would say about the plots: “It was the Joosz.”
Thanks Helen. We’ll call you when we need another quote from a complete fool and mentally impaired journalist (You have so much competition that I wouldn’t sit by the phone).
Are you sure it doesn’t depict Mohammad dragging a human into Hell?
I’m still fuming over the muslims that swiped the pretty stone from the egyptian pyramids.
Nice fresco. I think it is a demon on the right and Muhamet on the left. It isn’t satan himself dragging him to hell but a mere demon. Moohamed’s hands are also bound behind his back. A great insult to the moon worshipers. I think the Crusades were on when this was made, we won...I think.
Reminds me of John Kerry...who never cared that the ‘Tollybahn’ was murdering women and children in stadiums in Afghanistan for blood sport for years...but had a cow when they blew up the Budda statues and introduced some lame bill condemning the ‘tollybahn’ for destroying architectural history.
(GIANT EYE ROLL)
Here is a little reminder of the lame stream media’s priorities in the ‘new world’ they built:

Europe was pushed into letting them in. Their anemic birthrate cause by their longterm permissive attitudes to abortion and homosexuality gave them few options in keeping their economies running.
The Guardian, June 24 2002 Al-Qaida plot to blow up Bologna church fresco http://www.zombietime.com/mohammed_image_archive/euro_medi_ren/
Dante famously portrays Mohammed in hell. One of the earliest illustrations of the Inferno has Dante, who is daily eviscerated by devils, showing his guts to Dante, who is being led through the level of the heretics by his guide Virgil:
Oops, I mean Mohammed is daily eviscerated by devils.
Yep that is exactly what the fresco is. It was painted sometime I think in the 14th century after the Crusades. :)
....gave them few options in keeping their economies running.

Well they sure got some fringe benefits along with the deal they did not count on....liberals/socialists (whichever) never consider the consequences of their actions — one of the horrid traits of liberalism.
Certainly a valid way to view it.
Pity they don’t reopne the camps to use on the Muslim scum who keep running around, looking to be offended, and then try to blow the object of their offense up.
My respect for Italians artist just went up 1000%. The title is correct. If a mere demon can drag the leader of your religion into Hell just think what they can do to you mere mortal? Mohammad and his moon god allah would love to drag the whole human race into Hell. Italy is on my bucket list, but now I’m adding this Church to my list, and I’m going to drop a whole lot of money enjoying this fresco.

Living with the ‘barbarians’ inside the gates. America close behind in judgment.
I understand they are particularly irritated at being called “Mahometans” - it’s apparently their equivalent of the “N-word”;)
From: ORIANA FALLACI, The Force of Reason, New York 2006, page 56:
In 1974 Boumedienne [President of Algeria] spoke before the general assembly of the United Nations. he said: One day millions of men will leave the southern hemisphere of this planet to burst into the northern one. But not as friends. Because they will burst in to conquer, and they will conquer by populating it with their children. Victory will come to us from the wombs of our women.
Also on Page 57:
That very same year the Islamic Conference concluded its meeting in Lahore with a Resolution which included a plan to turn the then modest flow of immigrants towards Europe and penetrate the continent through demographic preponderance. A plan that is now a precept. In every mosque of Europe the prayer is accompanied by the exhortation Bear at least five children each couple
Incidentally, Dante placed Mohammed in the eighth circle of hell for being a sower of discord. Modern Muslims prove his point— Islam makes people perpetually pissed. These dudes need to grab a beer and surf some porn!
Never have Hoseas prophetic words been more appropriate: We opened the door and...
The thief comes inside. The Bandits raid outside. Now their exploits surround and encircle them. (Hosea 7:1-2) They strip the people bare and cause destruction. The bandit, is a raider, a marauding mercenary who takes things which do not belong to him. In a modern setting, this is the Robin Hood mentality of politicians.
Yep, it works every time! And you don't even hafta be a muzzie.
Budda’s, paintings, buildings, people, themselves. Nothing has any relevence to them. If they don’t like it, why should anyone else?
Then I was just reading the story about the many Libyans migrating to Italy. This is not helping Italy’s situation.
Europe is having a similar immigrations as we are in the US.
"Every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit."
they are having similar immigration ‘issues’ as we are.
That makes me wonder...
This fresco was created a lot closer to the time of Mohammed than we are at now. They must have had lore that is lost to us. Muslims today are reacting to the thinking of the time.
While no comparison, it does remind me of watching old western movies from the 20's, 30's, and 40's. The people of the time were influenced by other experts who were still alive and could recall the period being depicted. Today, the late 1800's is lost to us, except in how it was depicted by others before us in print and film.
Given contemporary vs. closer to actuality depiction of history, whose interpretation would have more credibility?

The public can't handle the truth.
Stalinists tried to purge the historical record too.

"This is an outrage!!!"

They did this in March of 2001. Must've been more stone Eichmans or China's Israel policy or Booosh... < /conspiracy nutjob talk >
They destroy these things (including the WTC and Israel) because they are incompatible with their Islamic Supremacist worldview.
He wasn’t dragged, he went willingly.
One day in the not too distant future, like-minded people will fall upon the cathedrals of Europe with the same intent as their ancestors a millennium ago.
