MONTEREY, Calif.A Monterey County man will be getting millions of dollars from the state for the injuries he received when he crashed his motorcycle after hitting a wild pig.
Adam Rogers is confined to a wheelchair after hitting the pig on Highway 1 near Carmel late at night in September of 2003.
He sued the state Department of Transportation, claiming the state was responsible for his injuries because it knew wild pigs were crossing the highway.

“”A Monterey County man will be getting millions of dollars from the state for the injuries he received when he crashed his motorcycle after hitting a wild pig.”
And CA wonders why it can’t pay its bills.
This guy was drunk, riding his motorcycle and hit one of the wild pigs and is now wheel-chair bound.
The jury awarded him millions since the state did not provide a way for the pigs to safely get across the street and, they did not put up any signed that pigs might be crossing. The state now, has erected a sign warning that pigs might be crossing. I'd say put a tunnel under the road.
So that would be $258,000,000,000,000 ($258 Trillion) at $8.6 Million per person, assuming 300 Million inhabitants, from Obama, his Rat cohorts, and assorted RINOs for the January crash with Porkulus Maximus?
Proper answer: “Well, we didn’t know they were going to be crossing *then* ...”
BOGUS.
what is wrong with California and American in general.
Hmmmm. I wonder how long it will be before states have to pay for deer being hit by cars? Due to states regulating the harvesting of these “natural resources” which roam into traffic from time to time, it’s a wonder they haven’t been found liable for their damage in court already.
I was hoping some one could provide the details to this story. Thanks much.
As a guy who lives in an area that are heavily populated with deer, I gotta roll my eyes at this one.
I mean, this is why I sold my motorcycle (that, and I needed the money) — I could see myself hitting a deer on a motorcycle, and it would’ve made for a very bad day.
See, that’s the way I’m looking at this whole thing. These pigs are “harvested” like any other game animal in California.
I’ll have to remember this in case a bug ever hits me in the eye and I wreck my bike and end up crippled as a result: No bug crossings. The state knew and didn’t warn me. Millions will be mine.
He was DUI, but I’d hardly call a .10 BAC “drunk.” Apparently the jury didn’t think that was an important factor in the accident, however.
Why is there even a “sanctuary” for wild pigs? It’s not like they’re an endangered species.
Any lawyers out there that can tell us what the chance of him actually collecting this amount.
Thank God our juries are hand-picked from the most intelligent and educated segments of society.
Unless the state wins on an appeal, the chance of him collecting is 100%.
Was the pig wild?
Well, it wasn't best pleased.
It seems the state has also, by it’s policies, encouraged the expansion of the Mountain Lion population. Next time there’s an attack, I would think that this is grounds for a major lawsuit.
Either way, a .10 is legally drunk and does not belong on a motorcycle. The real question is, should be taxpayer be on the financial hook for him running into wild animals - other states do not hold the taxpayers liable when the run into deer or moose.
Had I been on the jury he would have lost which is why juries are now rigged by “consultants” these days and most people under the jury selection process today is flawed.
I hope the state appeals this - which I think it won’t.
this shows how stupid the jury pool is these days. ajury pool made of dead beats, welfare people, children of illegals, and yes, even illegals. fear that you ever be tried by these fools for any non-PC “crime”
I couldn’t determine if he was riding a Hog . . .
How are they going to get the pigs to read the pig crossing signs?
Supposedly Adam Rogers (the victim) posted to the newspaper’s forum for this article:

It’s pretty safe to say that you are not familiar with Highway 1 along Carmel and the Pacific coast.
Deer can’t ride motorcycles, their little feet don’t reach the pedals.
Did it once - know thousands do it everyday without a problem.
