NEWPORT (CBS 3) ―
State police say a trooper shot a naked Wilmington man who was beating him with his police radio.
The trooper found 35-year-old Fabian Silvestre standing naked on Route 4 around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday.
Police say Silvestre charged the trooper and after a struggle, the trooper used his pepper spray. Unaffected, police say Silvestre took the trooper's radio and beat him with it. Police say the trooper feared for his life and fired two shots, hitting Silvestre in the shoulder, but it did not stop him.
A second trooper arrived and used a stun gun on Silvestre and with the help of a third trooper they were able to subdue Silvestre.
When Silvestre is released from Christiana Hospital, police expect to charge him in this attack and an earlier attack on his wife.
I’m guessing drugs were involved.

Having to shoot a naked guy on the side of the road at 3 in the morning is one of the reasons I couldn’t be a cop.
Actually, ridding the world of naked, violent crazies would be one of the few rewards of the job.
Having been in a few locker rooms in my time I kind of feel sorry for the first trooper. Getting your *ss kicked by a naked stoned guy with your own radio will invite some great smart-*ssed comments after a few days, at least by the guys I know...

I’ll bet the cop shot him after the guy got his head in a leg lock, facing towards him. A fate almost as bad as death, unless you are Bawney Fwank.

b) Since when have cops needed to be in fear for their lives to cap a perp?

Range time prolly doesn't help when you've got a drugged-out naked guy who's covered in pepper spray, who's close enough to be trying to beat you to death with your own radio. It would make a great contest for a reality show, though.... Actually, given the circumstances it's kinda impressive that the cop got a shot off at all.

They've had to being saying that ever since the Al Sharptons of the world began protesting every police shooting. OTOH, I think it's a fair criterion.

Trooper needs more time on the range-—needed to drop him permanently, IMO.

It's just a matter of constructing the right drill. Oh, and getting an instructor to take off his clothes and try to thump you with a rubber radio...
