LONDON, March 22 (UPI) -- Disability activists say they're backing a British mother given a $145 parking ticket when she stopped to revive her severely disabled son.
Batkin incurred the ticket by illegally stopping her car on the pavement to resuscitate him. To make matters worse, Batkin said, the Richmond Council's parking office later refused to rescind the ticket even after she explained what had happened, The Daily Telegraph reported Sunday.
Richmond Aid officials say they hope local authorities can find it "in their hearts to rescind a parking fine incurred by a desperate mother who had no choice if she was to save the life of her child."
"We are so appalled we struggle to find words," said one aid official.
But ... But as a government employee you have to go by the book! It does not matter if what you are doing makes sense.
Forget hearts, you would think the laws there would provide exemptions for emergency situations.
Zero tolerance=zero brain.
I hope this parking official gets the AIG Executive treatment.
That’s one of the kinds of people who go into goverment. Get enough of them and you wind up with the Khmer Rouge.
I’ve read some really bizarre things that the English government does but this one really PO’s me ....
You have to have one to find it ....
In England, there are none ... they even ticket cops and EMT trucks there ....
More Gub’Mint thinking.
I get off at 4:59:59, you?
I fly when called, other times I’m instructing or at home such as now and BORED OUT OF MY SKULL!!!!!!
>>I get off at 4:59:59, you?
4:61:01
you’d like to think so.
my grandmother got a speeding ticket 20+ years ago taking my sister to the hospital. cop pulled her over, she was nice enough to stop, but told the officer she was taking my sister to the ER bcause she couldn’t breathe and teh cop could lead her or follow her, but she was leaving right then.
the jerk had the brass ones to follow her and issue her a ticket in the ER, and suggest next time she call and wait for an ambulance.
No doubt. A person would have to be paid extra to be that stupid, cruel, and heartless.
But they are ... read the English paper The Sun and you’ll see stories that are incomprehensible to logical people ... there are videos on how truly stupid those traffic wardens are ...
Is it a true story? I find it might not be as they are using dollars in a story from London??? However, she should go to court and get this dropped. I know that this happens here in America and people get it dropped at court. Heck even I got a speeding ticket dropped back in the day just for going to court.
Oh, those unions....
Saviors of post-industrial America, ending child labor and ruthless sweatshop expoitation...
Since the 1930’s...owned by the Mob and other unsavory folks...social agendas and have killed:
1. The auto industry
2. The airline industry
3. All public employees (teachers, firemen, gov’t workers)
4. Service industries (SEIU) - pro-open borders
Unions are still relevant, but not for all professions.
Put this “public servant’s” photo, name and ALL personal information on the front page of every UK newspaper, along with what he did. See if he resigns and moves to Peru.
Just might do a follow up to see ...
When some stories are posted in the USA they sometimes convert local money to ours ....
Inbred monarchy? Petty civil servants? Blame to go around!

I was in court for a traffic ticket once. A woman was speeding to get to the hospital where her son had been taken after falling off the monkey bars. He convulsed and wasn’t moving and the ambulance had taken him to the hospital and she was on her way from work.
She brought in the hospital records, the school records all showing the time when she got a ticket.
The judge said “But were you speeding?” she of course answered yes and he said “Guilty”.
Sometimes we all need a little common sense in our lives.
Oh yeah, and the cop was a jerk too. She was complaining because he didn’t believe her ‘excuse’ as he put it and he took EXTRA long to write out the ticket.

I think this is a little different. Speeding to independently get to somewhere as opposed to being actively involved in a lifesaving operation are quite different.
Gov workers have far too much power.
You mean a big bonus? :)
Followed by buses of people who want to take shifts in swimming in his/her pool.
Oh, it is definitely different than this scenario, but it still would have ticked me off.
Remember - Britain has been trying for some time to kill off and/or prevent such disabled weaklings in their society. It is all part of their cost-cutting measures in their socialized medicine system.
This one apparently slipped past the abortionist doctors...
The road to serfdom has a toll booth every quarter mile and the speed limits are not posted.
