US criticizes Spain on Kosovo pullout

The United States is issuing unusually strong criticism of NATO ally Spain by expressing surprise at its decision to pull out its troops from the U.N. peacekeeping mission in Kosovo.

State Department spokesman Robert Wood says the United States was "deeply disappointed" by the decision. He says Washington only learned of the move shortly before Spain announced it publicly.

Defense Minister Carme Chacon made the announcement Thursday, saying, "The mission has been completed and it is time to return home."

Asked if the United States shared that assessment, Wood said, "Not at all."

Spain urges US to 'respect' Kosovo pullout decision - March 20, 2009 - "We respect the position of other countries, but at the same time we ask for respect for our position," said a source at the office of Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.

At an EU summit in Brussels Friday, Zapatero insisted he was pulling Spanish troops out of Kosovo because security had improved and Madrid's role made no sense as it did not recognize the territory.

"A year ago, Kosovo unilaterally declared independence, and as is well known, Spain did not recognize this," he told reporters at an EU summit in Brussels.

"For this reason, our role in this scenario lost some of its sense, especially once stability in the zone improved," he said.

The United States is issuing unusually strong criticism of NATO ally Spain ...

Yes, at the same time it is pleading with Iran for a new dialog, and a new commitment towards...Iran.

Who is our president again? Oh that's right. - hussein

“Who is our president again? Oh that’s right. - hussein “

Yup, the worthy successor to Jorge “TROP” Bush, the best friend the Mohammedan Saudi royals ever had! :)

Perhaps, but Bush never bombed the Christians and fought for the Muslims. - In Serbia.

That TROP nonsense was appalling to me, as well.
So was Amnesty and the expansion of government programs.

George was a mixed bag. - What can I say...
Thank you for your post.

Bullshit!

Bush did more to fight islamofascism than Serbia's sorry ass ever did.

Serbia is allies with the ayatollahs! Just another sorry-ass bunch of Eurotrash dhimmis!

Why was the Spanish military there in the first place? To pick up women on the other end of the Med? They have perfectly fine bases near Cadiz, Torrejon and Zaragosa to go back to. Zapatero is correct.

That’s simply not true, though your well established reputation as a cheerleader for Albanian Mohammedan butcher jihadis is well established so we’ll all just take your intemperate comment whence it comes and not expect you to recognize the truth. George Bush did more for Mohammedanism’s expansion than any president in American history. His legacy, aside from the mess here at home, is the smoking ruins of Eastern Christian communities from the Adriatic to the Iran/Iraq border.

You mean Christians like Tariq Aziz?

Why is it exactly some so-called "Christians" got along so well with that butcher, Saddam Hussein?

Clinton stuck his nose in that mess and made it worse. Serbians are Christian Orthodox. Albanians are Muslims. After Clinton stuck his nose in, hundreds of Churches were destroyed in Kosovo.

But he did recognize Kosovo which legitimized the aspirations of Albanian thuggery as well as Saudi aspirations for expanding islam by building mosques there.

They didn’t, they wanted him out of office at the behest of the population as early as 97’.
