Every American who needs a job needs to join picketing of businesses who hire illegal aliens.

“unite behind FISCAL CONSERVATIVE Arnold”

I hope you mean that as a joke. Those of us who live in California certainly laugh at the idea of linking Arnold and ‘conservative’ in the same sentence.

He gets an Oscar. I hope he’s kidding.

LOL. In retrospect, I think BB wishes he had put an “/s” on his post for those folks who don’t know him.

For some reminiscing (and confirmation), see this post from last night:

Yep. I had assumed most people who post on Arnold threads would know I was anti-Arnold by now. Sadly, the freepers who really DID argue that kind of stuff back in 2003 are no wonder to be seen when I ping them to the latest Arnie threads. Guess they tucked their tails between their legs and hide out of shame.

I agree that people that are clueless about another state's politicians should butt out of a thread about it. I get really tired of out-of-staters claiming Patrick Fitzgerald is a "card-carrying partisan Democrat" (he's an anti-machine outsider was selected for the U.S. Attorney job by a conservative Republican, with the Chicago Democrat machine loudly PROTESTING every step of the way because they wanted a local Illinois hack they could "trust"), or that Dick Durbin is a "typical Chicago politican" (Durbin is actually a DOWNSTATE Democrat who was recruited by the machine to run for the U.S. Senate in the guise of a "moderate", then quickly showed his true colors and voted hard-left once he got in office).

But on the other hand, if freepers have researched their candidates and know what they're talking about, I welcome their input on political races around the country.

Illinois claims four Presidents, but only one of them was actually an Illinois native. His name is Ronald Reagan. But I guess California can claim Reagan if Illinois calls itself "Land of Lincoln" (just keep in mind you won't find many Reagan Republicans in the areas of California that Reagan was "from"!)

There was a thread a couple months back where an Illinois freeper suggested coming to Eureka if you want to learn about Reagan, and someone noted in alarm that Eureka is a bunch of Reagan-hating commies, because they assumed the poster was talking about Eureka, California (rather than Reagan's college alumnus in Illinois, where he gave his famous 1982 arms speech now known as "The Beginning of the End of the Cold War.") Arnie really ought to visit, because the only conservative policies he knows now are the soundbites his speechwriters gave him to win an election.

You’re missing my point. Sure, there are millions of Reagan Republicans in California — just NOT in towns Reagan LIVED in! Yes, Reagan converted to the conservative cause while in California, but it wasn’t because he listened to his Hollyweird neighbors in Bel Air or the politicians in Sacramento.

Dixon, Illinois, where Reagan grew up, is a very conservative town. Los Angeles, California where Reagan spent his adult years, is not.

There’s a reason why Reagan put his Presidential library in solidly conservative Simi Valley, rather than any part of California he was “from”. (Also explains why Hillary Clinton had her book tour in Chicago, rather than Park Ridge, Illinois where she was “from”. I don’t think she’d get a very warm welcome in her hometown!)

Bottom line is you won’t learn about Reaganism from visiting the parts of California Reagan called home.

This is the sign you were supposed to be seeing (where you said a Kerry-Edwards photo showed up... not sure why that would appear on a link to a Reagan website). Hopefully it shows up now:

Just look at their conservative congressman, Bill Foster.

Los Angeles, California where Reagan spent his adult years, is not.

Los Angeles and southern California, where Reagan moved in the 30's, was the face of conservatism for decades.

Ummm... you do realize that district was held by conservative Republicans for about 70 years before Foster won a FLUKE 2008 special election, right? (Thanks to Dennis Hastert resigning early and endorsing the unelectable Oberweis). I think Dixon and Lee County voted against Foster anyway, and he's the ONLY Democrat elected in a district otherwise strongly conservative. Using him as "evidence" the 14th district is not conservative is like saying Orange county must not be conservative because Loretta Sanchez won in a fluke over Bob Dorgan.

>> Los Angeles, California where Reagan spent his adult years, is not. Los Angeles and southern California, where Reagan moved in the 30's, was the face of conservatism for decades. <<

Bel Air, Hollywood, L.A., Pacific Palisades, Sacramento, and San Francisco were "the face of conservatism"?? You've GOT to be kidding me. Orange county and San Diego are the conservative parts of southern California and Reagan never lived a day in his life there. Hollywood was overrun with left-wing commie sympathizers in the 50s (who were all mad at Reagan for "betraying" them by ratting them out and agreeing with Congress that Hollywood is filled with anti-American leftists), just like it is today. Reagan was a conservative in a sea of liberalism.

Take away Foster and what other liberals do you see in the places Reagan grew up? Look at their representatives in the general assembly. Tampico, Eureka, Monmouth, Dixon -- all conservative Republicans. Hollywood, Bel Air, Sacramento, Pacific Palisades -- all liberal Democrats. One except to that rule does not change the big picture.

Make me dictator of CA and I will address all of those problems. I will then fire all legislators and outlaw the dem party. I will allow free elections but only if the voter has passed a civics test and shown US citizenship proof. Vote for me, I’ll get it done(not really, because you still have to deal with the fickin congress).

What fluke? Dornan's district was overrun by illegal aliens and the demographics went left. Now Foster's district is left wing too, as evidenced by the liberal tool they elected.

Sacramento, and San Francisco were "the face of conservatism"??

No, but Los Angeles and southern California generally were in the decades leading up to Ronald Reagan becoming the governor of California.

Arnie is jumping with glee over the money coming from Obama. Question: he will be gone when the federal funding runs out and they are stuck with these programs the state will have to fund. How does the state legislature plan to handle that? Seems to me CA is literally living hand to mouth with no plan to the future.

Of course. It lets him hand out more fat patronage jobs to his cronies, like Sharon Runner.

And, he knows he won’t be there when they have to figure out how to come up with the money to keep it going in a year or two.
