Marrero, LA - Sheriff Newell Normand reports, on March 18, 2009 Detective Sgt. Curtis Pettigrew, the Police On Campus officer assigned to Higgins High School in Marrero conducted an investigation into allegations against a teacher at Higgins.
According to witnesses, three students claimed they observed a teacher identified as Joey A. Lehrman, W/M, 22, of 701 North Salcedo in New Orleans masturbating alone inside of his classroom during his free period this same date. The students claimed they observed Lehrman through the glass window of the classroom door.
Sgt. Pettigrew placed Joey Lehrman under arrest for Obscenity and transported him to the Criminal Investigations Bureau. Lehrman admitted to unbuckling his pants and rubbing lotion on his lower stomach. Lehrman stated he did this because of a medical problem and continued by saying he also rubbed the lotion on his penis while in the classroom.
Lehrman has been teaching at Higgins since August 2008 and has no prior criminal record. According to Jefferson Parish School officials, Joey Lehrman has been suspended without pay.

It beats me why somebody would do something like that.
Who is the guy on the left? Things look bad for the teach but he is innocent until proven guilty.

My 1st job in High School was selling magazines for a sleazy outfit located on Salcedo St. It is in a sleazy area a long ways from Marrero but then that describes much of that city I suppose

This is not correct. As a teacher down here in New Orleans, I can say that once teachers are hired through Teach for America, they are employees of that parish, not of Teach for America. Even though JPSB is claiming otherwise, Teach for America is really just a prestigious staffing agency for the school districts. For Jeff Parish to say that they are not Lehrman’s boss is a complete copout on JPSB’s part. They just don’t want to be associated with something that THEIR teacher did.
I just hope that all of hundreds of devoted TFA teachers in Greater New Orleans aren’t vilified because of 1 idiot...
Teach For America doesn’t employ teachers; they recruit, place, and support teachers while the school districts employ said teachers. In my limited experience with TFA teachers, they’ve proven to be hard working, dedicated, intelligent, and charismatic, although young and idealistic. As for the masturbation...though it’s noteworthy, three of the 25 male employees at my New Orleans public school have been involved in some sort of sexual misconduct this year. Two have been terminated.
