Posted on 03/18/2009 8:13:12 PM PDT by MAD-AS-HELL

As he empathized with recession-weary Americans, President Obama arranged in the days just before he took office to secure a $500,000 advance for a children's book project, a disclosure report shows.

The terms of the book deal were disclosed in a Senate financial disclosure report filed Tuesday.

I’m sure he will pay his 100% tax on the income...After all, he is rich, and he should be patriotic and give all his earnings to the poor.

a $500,000 advance on a book that Obama cannot possibly write in the next 4 or 8 years is a gift.

It’s called “cashing in on the presidency”.

Kinda like Bill Clinton renting out the Lincoln Bedroom.

Not illegal. Just tacky.

Heck, when you pay $7000 for a swingset, $500,000 doesn’t last that long anyway.

Holy mackerel. A large advance for a ghost-written children’s book based on his ghost-written autobiography.

This guy is going to leave office even richer than the clintons. You heard it here first.

Next, an anime movie.

“a $500,000 advance on a book that Obama cannot possibly write in the next 4 or 8 years is a gift.”

He has plenty of free time. All he does is fly back and forth across the country and make public appearances. He isn’t making any policy or doing any real work.

Obama's NOT writing it.
The project calls for an abridged version of his book "Dreams From My Father" for middle-school-aged children...the deal had been in the works for weeks and that the publisher will abridge the book.
Sounds to me like Obama's just lending the publisher the right to use the book. The publisher will do the re-work. Obama just cashes the check.

I don’t see the problem with this.

An advance to a political figure is a bribe.

Obama doesn't have time to write a book. Yet he is getting an advance on Royalties on the assumption that he will write a book.

Obama is as corrupt as they come.

I don’t see how signing a kiddy book deal before entering office is scummy. Opportunistic but not exactly scummy. But, from the article, I found this quote interesting:

“I´ve written two books; I actually wrote them myself,” he said.

Curious. Why does he need to emphasize or insist that he, himself, wrote the books he’s written? Let’s ask Bill Ayers.

Obama writing a children’s book...hahahahhaha, there have been several “professional” ghost writer investigators, who claim Bill Ayers wrote the book “Dreams of my Father”, and not Obama...they used Ayers book “The Fugitive” and compared writing styles, grammer, language to prove the same person wrote both books. So another upfront deposit on a book that someone else will write.

I’m much more upset about everything else Obama’s done since taking office.

For a guy who talked about responsibility and transparency during the campaign, this is neither responsible nor transparent for a President to do. This goes right to the heart of him being a classic Chicago politician. The sheer audacity of a move before becoming president disrespects the office, imho.

You and I agree on that, especially since Obama joined that marxist group in mid nineties, and has shown that he is marxist/communist. So many disturbing revelations on this guy and his associates, and new things are still coming out. There were threads on FR about all of this during election.

Last year, Mr. Obama reported earning $949,910 in royalties from "Dreams From My Father" and $1.5 million from "The Audacity of Hope." In 2007, he reported $3.2 million in book royalties from Random House.

Has anyone read either of these books? It would be interesting to read them with respect to his difficulties in the past two months. IOW, I'm sure Obama's not quite the legend his own books make him out to be.

Yes, I read Dreams...

It indeed is dreamy. He comes across as a thoroughly disaffected, disconnected brooding angry leftist. Yes, he seems to have some writing style, but then, so did Norman Mailer (how would you like to have THAT screwball for a President?).
