Pressure is mounting on Michael Steele to straighten up and fly right after stumbling out of the gate as the chairman of the Republican Party.
Conservatives are losing patience with him. Democrats are predicting his ouster. And Republicans, the people he serves, say he is spending too much time in front of the cameras delivering verbal misfires instead of developing a behind-the-scenes strategy to put the "Grand" back in the Grand Old Party.
Steele's critics are threatening a revolt if he keeps it up. But they may find that removing the party's first black party boss is easier said than done.

Simple solution: Replace him with Ken Blackwell.
Why not? He has already dumped us.
Let’s set an example for the Dems! Incompetence at the top will not be tolerated.
Steele needs to pitch the large GOP tent on the high ground of Conservative Principle rather than the DC swamp where it currently stands.
Of course they, would I mean he is not perfect.
Don’t “dump” him; let him “resign with honor.”
The sooner the better...
What does black have to do with anything?
WHY IS RACE NOW A QAULIFICATION!?!?!
I dnot sepll so good.
Mr. Steele, be a man and accept some criticism. Then get cracking and deliver on your promises.
Is there a connection between this dimwit and Chrissie Whitman the nitwit?
When something is black and stinks this bad, I flush it.
Nope. The GOP leadership knew Steele before selecting him. Steele knows what he is saying. He was not born politically yesterday.
The GOP wants to break out of the Bible belt and the corn belt. Prolifers got to find an alternative because GOP as the anti-abortion party is on the exit lane.
That's crazy talk. Why, think of that huge hip hop voting block that would just vanish before the GOP's dying eyes.
I’ve stuck by the GOP (but NOT the NRC and a lesser degree the WAGOP) for a long time, but my patience is beginning to wear thin.
“Steele’s critics are threatening a revolt if he keeps it up. But they may find that removing the party’s first black party boss is easier said than done.”
Wanna Bet?? How about when the MONEY dries up??
Everything, to racists.
>> Conservatives are losing patience with him.
Me? I HATE the backstabbing incompetent SOB! Thanks for asking!
>> Democrats are predicting his ouster.
I hope this is the time that the broken Dimocrap clock is right. Happens twice a day... I *could* get lucky.
The Elite GOP surely do, but as Rush said, they do so at their peril.
>> When something is black and stinks this bad, I flush it.
Hey, I “smell” a metaphor there.
We can flush him, because, after all, we made him.
WHAT DOES HIS RACE HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING???????????
The GOP minus social conservatives is more of what the last two elections brought us, and the nation can’t afford it.
It’s obvious no one at the GOP has ever run a small business.
If they’re smart they’ll dump him now. By the time it matters, it’ll be stale news.
Conservatives will look "racist" if they try to dump RINO Steele. Do they really want the Rats to be able to point that out?
Very clever, but very dangerous, as conservatives can still sink the party by simply closing their wallets and sleeping in on election day.
Au contraire. As easy to do it as it is to say it.
No more RINO, inept hacks leading the party.
Boot him immediately and replace him with someone who has management stills, is a good fund raiser, and can articulate conservative principles without vacillation.
One thing that I have learned in my life that when you rack your brain for a reason to justify an action and nothing seems to make sense you fall back on the old saw ‘follow the money’ and with that in mind where is the millions and millions of contributions normally designated for the RNC going: SarahPAC, in spades.
Now who benefits: Sarah Palin and her millions of supporters
Who loses: everybody else: the RNC, elitists, the Beltway crowd, the MSM, Romney, Huckabee, Jindal, Pawlenty etc.
C’est la vie!
Has to be ~ 100% of the time his critics are pointing to something written in a Leftwingtard magazine or newspaper (e.g. Washington Post) and telling us "See, dem Democrats is tellin' de truf about us 'publicans".
Michael Steele has always had problems with the Leftwingtards up and down the East Coast. They stand prepared to take his every word out of context and rewrite it to satisfy what they know is a propaganda piece that will sway the weak of mind.
Guy hasn't been in the job long enough for any criticism, and it's long overdue for Conservatives and Republicans to quit inventing criticisms for the Leftwingtards to use against us.
Strangely, this is not about Steele being a Rino.
It’s all about offending Rush Limbaugh and his 22m listeners, many of them who support Sarah Palin.
Let’s be honest. If you have used a certain brand of toothpaste for 20 years (donated to the RNC without thinking) it would take a significant event to convince anyone to change brands (to donate elsewhere), which happened when the 3 RINO’s voted for the stimulus package, the GOP leadership in Congress appeared to lay down for Obama who scares the bejesus out of people, and Limbaugh’s CPAC speech drew a line in the sand for conservatives. The cherry on the cake was Steele’s blast of Rush Limbaugh.
Now thousands and maybe tens of thousands of conservatives and Republicans have vowed to only contribute to SarahPAC for the foreseeable future.
Sarah Palin got lucky by opening her PAC when she did. Isn’t that the way it always is in life: the people with the most talent also appear to get the best luck as well.
The sooner the better!!!!!
I’ve been emailing Chairman Steele regularly, sometimes three and four times a day, giving him a piece of my mind.
I keep reminding him that if he wants to build up the GOP it MUST MUST MUST be different from the Democrats. Otherwise, just go join them.
If he tries to make the agenda too broad and makes the Republicans nothing but “Democrat light” then the exodus of traditionally conservative Constitution (READING) defending voters will be deafening.
I won’t donate until there is a FIRM Conservative (etc) agenda and ALL Republicans in Congress have signed on supporting it.
The Independent Party is now the fastest growing Political Party in the USofA. Beats out the Constitution Party.
He can’t be replaced until there’s someone else to take his spot; but seriously, it would be better if he just learned a few debate skills and stopped allowing liberals to railroad him into making gaffs. He’s not an elected official; he doesn’t need to make policy decisions or govern a bureaucracy or hammer out compromise legislation - all he needs to do is go after the ‘rats and do some behind-the-scenes election strategizing.
Steele apologized to Limbaugh. You can accept that he did or keep tossing those Oreos.
I don’t give a damn what color he is. Those comments today on abortion were inexcusable.
I don’t remember the press giving the Republicans a lot of praise for appointing a black to this post. They said virtually nothing about it, after having spent a whole year celebrating Obama.
So if they whine and bitch, let’s just remind them of that. Since he’s a Republican, he’s probably an Uncle Tom anyway—at least until he gets fired.
Not quick enough on his feet so wrong man for the job...better to cut our loses now.
But, but, but.... So many here on FR laid the future of the Republican Party right on his shoulders...
Bleh...
Sounds great, are there any good candidates out there?
YEP!
not a good idea to “sleep on election day” as the last two elections have shown, but it is a GOOD idea to support true conservatives (not mushy “conservatives” that only say the right things, but then don’t follow through) in the Primaries!
the real secret is many of the “strategists” do not WANT pro-life legislation to be passed, it’s a hot issue for them and drives MILLIONS of Evangelical Christians and Catholic Christians to the polls for them..if Abortion was made illigal then they would actually have to work, and stand on principle to keep these people..that’s too much work and the Pro-Life issue is too much of a ‘wedge issue’ to be used in ‘elections’.. I want Abortion to end, it just seems strange that after 30 years we have made little real progress legally (though I know leaps and bounds “culturally”/Public Opinion)!
