TEXAS ping! ping! ping!
Yessiree. bump! :)
No amount of $$$ could make me go to Mexico--something I have enjoyed in the past. No more!
A 10 year old kid in Mexico can go to the store and buy beer. Maybe that's not technically "legal," but neither is it legal for cops to extort money from drivers...
I used to drive all over Mexico, and the places where I felt least safe were where all the tourists went. Think about it. If you were a kidnapper or bandit (or a cop for that matter), where would you get richer: In a city with tourists, or on a remote ranch?
The trouble with a ranch, though, is that you have to go on the road to get there, and on the highways you might bump into people you don’t want to meet. I stopped driving around when I ran into a bunch of guys on the highway with machine guns and t-shirts with POLICIA written on them. I still don’t know if they were bandits or police, or both.
Went to Playa this weekend. Got mugged by the cops. So . . . no.
If you go on a “canned vacation” in Mexico, you’re probably okay. So, Cornyn is right in that regard.
Mexico is more dangerous than Iraq right now, but they generally leave the tourists alone except to incessantly hassle them to buy trinkets.
Try to move around on your own, or especially interact with the members of the cartels, and you might well end up dead.
The Mexican police are not to be trusted. They are extortion artists and love to prey on Americans. There are many destinations in Central America which are much nicer and safer.
It’s not really a secret that most Mexicans do not like gringos.
Ping!
