Prince Charles: 100 Months to Save the World
The Telegraph ^ | 09 Mar 2009 | Andrew Alderson

Posted on 03/09/2009 12:02:13 PM PDT by nickcarraway

The Prince of Wales is to issue a stark warning that nations have "less than 100 months to act" to save the planet from irreversible damage due to climate change.

Prince Charles will say that the need to tackle global warming is more urgent than ever before and that, even in a global recession, the world must not lose sight of the "bigger picture".

His warning will be delivered on Thursday in a keynote speech in Rio de Janeiro.

Aides believe it will echo one he gave in Sao Paulo in 1991 at the start of the last recession, when he warned that caring for the world's long term welfare must not become a "luxury".

The intervention will help to put the environment at the top of the political agenda ahead of the meeting of G20 leaders in London next month.

The Prince starts a ten-day tour of South America today during which he will be playing an elevated role as an international statesman working on behalf of the Government to support British interests on key issues.

Senior sources have revealed that Gordon Brown's Government wants to make more use on the foreign stage of Prince Charles's experience, expertise and contacts, particularly on climate change.

Government officials believe that the Prince's passion to protect the environment is hugely respected abroad and that he can play an increasing important role as he inevitably moves closer to becoming king.

Some believe he is an "asset" that has been underused in the past and they want to use him more in a role of "soft diplomacy".

In Thursday's speech, the Prince will warn that a failure to act in the next eight years will have catastrophic effects for the planet.

I remember at least as far back as 1989, groups saying, "if we don't save the environment within 10 years, it will be too late." If they were right then, it's too late. If they were wrong, why should we trust them this time?

I was getting worried, but now that Charles is beating the "never let a serious crisis go to waste" drum I am convinced that everything will be fine.

This is business-as-usual for the bureaucrat set.

His relevance ceased when Diana Spencer divorced him. Only hope for the English monarchy is that his mother outlives him.

"less than 100 months to act"

Can't he just 8 1/2 years or does that not sound ominous enough?

You know, Europe has been here before, though the case was probably inverse: in Germany in the 1880’s, the capable Hohenzollern was Fritz, who became very ill and died after having ruled only a few years. His father ruled erratically for decades and was an emotional wreck whom Bismarck easily dominated and often brought to tears. His son Wilhelm, well, Wilhelm’s rock-headedness was one of the key factors eliminating an entire generation of men from Western Europe.

What we have now is the reverse: Charles is the rock-head and we hope that either William or Harry has good sense.

Too early to tell, but given the stakes, I’m seriously praying that it all works out right.

In the late 1970’s, Jimmy Carter told us the worlds ‘fossil fuels will be depleated’.

IN 1989, Ted Danson announced on the Tonight Show ‘By the year 2000, the worlds oceans will be completely dead, devoid of all life...’

For the record, today is March 9th, 2008.

I drove my HUMMER 2 to work this morning, after filling the tank with some of that ‘depleated fossil fuel’.

And had a fish sandwich from one of those oceans ‘devoid of life, dead’ for lunch.

And some wonder why I don’t take enviromentalists seriously....(eyes rolling)

Curious, how the urgency to fix climate change rises as government coffers dwindle during an extended period of Global Cooling.

Prince Charles: Proof why generations of selective inbreeding is a bad idea.

The only difference between the British Royal family and a trailer park in the hills of Appalachia is “carbon footprint.” At least our hillbillies can claim they are not hypocrites.

I guess Charles wants to be sure that he don't give his global warming speech in a snow blizzard as Al Gore has so many times.

Why is it that those who claim to be the most concerned about global warming and CO2 have some of the largest carbon footprints on the planet?

I am obviously older than you, because I remember watching Jacques Cousteau saying the oceans would be dead by 1975. After that, people and animals would die off quickly.

That scared the sh*t out of me ( I was about 10, and we were supposed to watch his documentary as homework); it took a few more years before I realized how predictable it all was. It even has a name: apocalyptic politics.

It goes back even farther. I think it was 1986 that Ted Danson said we have 10 years to save the oceans. He now admits it was “hyperbole” (not a LIE) designed to get attention to the issue.

Socialists lie. Always.
