Even for strong backers of embryonic stem cell research, the decision is no longer as self-evident as it was, because there is markedly diminished need for expanding these cell lines for either patient therapy or basic research. In fact, during the first six weeks of Obama's term, several events reinforced the notion that embryonic stem cells, once thought to hold the cure for Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and diabetes, are obsolete. The most sobering: a report from Israel published in PLoS Medicine in late February that shows embryonic stem cells injected into patients can cause disabling if not deadly tumors.

I will not be happy until embryonic stem cells are injected diretly into the brains of every Liberal politician on Earth.
Breaking News Obama is going to remove Bush’s ban on embryonic stem cell research. Dufus dithers while the economy burns.
Yet the scientific facts remain that: (a) no useable treatment has yet to come out of embryonic stem cells and (b) because of this, private funds went to more promising lines of research and (c) the use of embryonic stem cells has become superfluous due to the new techniques in using other stem cells.
In fact, it wasn't until about 4 years ago that I even heard of adult stem cell research--thanks to the biased and incompeted "butt boy" media. It's not the Right that's anti-science-- it's the Left.
Embryonic stems cells—dead end.
Global Warming—dead end.
Raising Taxes—always has been
Expanding Government—yup.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
Anyone looking at the success or potential success of finding cures with embryonic stem cells is missing the whole point, which is
making sure that human embryos have no human value worth protecting, and that the lie that a baby is “just a clump of cells” can continue to assuage the consciences of the “had-abort” crowd.
Everybody has known that for a long time. The whole thing was just to force the abortion issue and give it, as well as the creation of embryos in the lab for genetic manipulation and experimentation, more cover and even make it sound socially beneficial.
That would be in keeping with his avid devotion to the democrat culture of death. Liberals owe Hitler an apology...he was a piker compared to their mass murders.
Won’t stop them from spending trillions on it.

It was on a different topic, but the other day I got an avowed liberal to take pause when I asked what value is the best intentions if the actions taken not only don't provide any help to the target group but actually bleed off resources so other efforts could have access to those funds? I have to admit, it was quite refreshing to encounter a liberal who could listen instead of spout for a change.
Choose to phrase the debate in those terms and it's obvious that autologous stem cells are the only way to go.
The problem with the moral argument is that while it is true that the moral choice is always the correct choice (when viewed in full context), trying to win a moral argument with someone who doesn't already agree with you is a losing proposition from the outset. This is because, as a wise theology professor once told me, you cannot reason a man out of a position he has not reasoned himself into.
If this research had any real prospects for success, these companies would have been doing it on their own and cashing in on the results.
Liberals hope to defund anti-missile systems even though they have demonstrated success.
Liberals hope to pour billions into embryonic stem cell research even though NONE have demonstrated success.
Liberal hypocrisy on display.
Embryonic stem cell research — so much more like the abortion issue than the obvious.
Like e.s.c.r., abortion was supposed to cure all kinds of ills (child abuse, poverty, the burden of raising children falling on women) but of course all those problems have risen exponentially.
Abortion is also supposed to be a plus in health care, and only lead to positive results. It’s supposedly necessary for women’s health, but it has left millions of women scarred, physically and mentally, and women still die from the procedure.
But they still cling to this sacred cow from e.s.c.r. all the way up to partial-birth — more and more abortions will someday bring about all they believe it will — talk about crazy.
Kind of an oxy-moron isn't it?
They all have a residual but otherwise unused brainstem.
The Left is generally mentally ill, it's true.
But abortion and ESCR are about money.
Abortion is the Democrats' largest industry. It is mainly taxpayer-funded (often with smoke and mirror, sleight of hand) and produces enormous kickbacks to Dem politicos.
Taxpayer-funded ESCR will allow abortion clinics to increase their income, by selling aborted fetal tissue to the research labs, which also have ties to big-name Dem politicos.
Like the sign says: "Your tax dollars at work"
But the Democrats say embryonic stem cells must be used - in the name of “science”, doncha know.
top of the hour news
.. Obama next week will lift the restrictions that President Bush imposed on embryonic stem cells research and funding.
Hey, that looks like Paul Teutul, Sr. of OCC.
Good point.
Did you see this from a couple days ago????
BFL
As the article correctly states, it was actually a continuation of Clinton's ban and it was NOT a ban on embryonic stem cell research, only a ban on Federal funding. It did allow continued Federal funding for those preexisting embryonic stem cell lines -- approx two dozen IIRC -- in which the embryos had already been destroyed and the stem cells isolated and available to researchers.
The Bush policy did nothing to in any way inhibit private financing of embryonic stem cell research which has been proceeding with scant results in the US and around the world.
The entire issue was turned into a political football as the Democrats are apt to do at every occasion. They distorted the issue leading people with serious illness to believe that George Bush was the only thing standing between them and a 'cure' when the reality is that embryonic stem cell shows little promise.
That is the worst kind of political cynicism, but sadly what I have come to expect from the Democrat party.
Thank you bump & a ping
