Activist Groups Urge Obama to Reject Boy Scout Honor
Fox ^

President Obama says he wants to be president of all the people. But some groups are urging him to make an exception for the Boy Scouts of America.

Critics of the Scouts who are outraged that the group is allowed to exclude gays and atheists while receiving federal funding are urging Obama to reject the group's honorary presidency, a designation bestowed on every U.S. president since William Howard Taft in 1910.

"I'm hoping and praying he turns down the honorary presidency," said Howard Menzer, president of Scouting for All, which advocates for inclusion of gays into the Boy Scouts.

"No way should he be involved with a discriminatory group. That would be the best thing that could happen if he said, 'You discriminate too much for me. I can't be your honorary president.' I think that might begin to change a few things."

Obama was meeting with a delegation of the Boy Scouts in the Oval Office on Tuesday afternoon, at which time he was to accept the group's 2008 Report to the Nation.

The Boy Scouts could chose Rush Limbaugh instead.

While the Gay Scouts pack each others fudge to sell to America.

As a former scout,it bothers me when special interest groups try to change scouting to suit their needs.I wonder why they don’t go after the DAR or The NAACP or other exclusive organizations.

There are few organizations finer than the Boy Scouts. And when a nation stoops to the place where special interest groups actually have a chance to cause a president to forgo an honorary position, then that nation is almost on it’s last legs.

I fear for this nation today. If you would have told me twenty years ago, when Reagan was leaving office, that we would be where we are now, I would have told you it wasn’t possible.

May God have mercy on our nation. The Democrats sure won’t.

I'm sure he'd like to do this, but he also doesn't want to be a political turd circling the drain.

I understand your point, but I hope that they don't. Let Obama have to make an uncomfortable political decision for the first time in almost 5 weeks - finally.

He takes, he pisses off his base. He rejects it, it's a 4 or 5 day news story. BARACK OBAMA HATES THE BOY SCOUTS - it's political gold for the GOP. Scouting still popular in those important Midwest swing states.

Or he undermines the Boy Scouts from within. I wouldn’t trust him near any Boy Scouts: he’s skilled with words and sly as a snake.

And anyrate, the very LAST thing we’d want is for Obama to be successful in persuading Boy Scouts to join his Civilian Security Service. If they did they would be a real force to be reckoned with.

I’d prefer to see Obama recruit all the crack-heads and gang-bangers he can find. We need the Boy Scouts on our side.

I had a cousin who was a homosexual and a boy scout. The think is nobody knew he was a homo, because he didn’t tell anybody he was a homo until he was an adult. It’s like the St. Pat’s Day parade group banning homosexuals. They don’t ban homos, anyone who’s Irish can march in the parade. They simply ban groups who announce they’re homos thereby politizing the parade. The whole argument is a sham.

Gays and Atheists are welcome to join. They just aren't permitted to prey upon our children, corrupt our culture and piss all over our traditions.

The kids would kick their @sses all over the place if they tried.

Uh... no, they are not. The Scout Oath explicitly contains a promise to do duty to God. The Scout Law includes the attribute "reverent." Moral straightness, or its pursuit, is a qualification for membership.

All of these foundational requirements exclude homosexuals and atheists - which is a good thing.

Yes, I now remember that, too. I think it spoke volumes about the despicable mindset of the DNC. Substitute a law enforcement group, military, or anyone of traditional authority for the Scouts, and you have the same reaction. These Dems are scum-of-the-earth. And that gives scum a bad name.

The receive federal support, like being allowed to hold their annual jamboree on a military reservation. I don't think they receive any actual funding.

If they do join then they're expelled if discovered. The Scouts fought a long court battle to guarantee their right to limit their membership.

Yes he was. There were those who thought he should be stripped of the title. And there were those who thought he should decline the title. But he was the head.

So...if Hillary Clinton had won the presidency then who would be the honorary head of the Boy Scouts?

DAR

Why would anybody except a woman who meets the criteria want to be in the DAR?

I'm reminded of the organization of German ancestors that was sued by some Blacks who wanted to become members in order to use the swimming pool! A judge actually ruled that they had to accept Black members who obviously weren't German.

I hope Obama stays away from the Boy Scouts---because I think highly of the BS.

I heard that some scouts refused awards with Bill Clinton's signature on it. They could do the same for Obama.

Naming the president as honorary head of Scouting is not required by the Boy Scout bylaws. It is a conscious decision on the part of Scout leadership. If individual Scouts disagree with the leadership's actions then maybe the should leave Scouting altogether?

Those practicing the homosexual way of life (homosexual behavior is a choice, not a state of being) were his biggest boosters to political office in Illinois and then for the presidency. He promised this group the sky and they worked hard in every way to give him exposure at public and newsworthy events and to be key note speaker in for large audiences of national organizations and to get him to be a speaker at the Democratic Convention and later to get him elected President. Do the Boy Scouts not know that?

You really do have to ask yourself how low this nation could go before the left would come around to understanding that communism isn’t the answer.

The “It wasn’t given a proper chance yet” line is such an ignorant premise.

It is not even the communism, it is the whole intolerance thing. No matter what the subject, if you disagree with them they attack, it is so tiring. They behave like snotty little children.

My uncle became a huge lib/Obama supporter. My brother re-enlisted after 9/11 and went to Afghanistan. After coming home for a while, he decided to go to work with Blackwater. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about them, but when my brother came home this last time, he refused to see him. Please, that is his nephew, he is in Iraq, and you cannot put aside your politics to say hey, to someone you’ve known since birth? He has become unbearable to be around, he picks fights with everyone.

Actually, I think there is a good argument to be made that these things eminate from the persuit of, the implementation of, and the rule of Communist governance.  Communism cannot compete with capitalism or an open society on a level playing field.  For that reason those who support it must use the tactics you have observed.  The Democrats Communists are quite comfortable with lying or using the tactics of intimidation, to gain their objective.  And when they gain their objective, the government will control everything.  And those who continue to support it, will have to suspend reality in order to do so, and nobody can be allowed to confront that reality.  This is why Communism always leads to repression, and absolute total control.  That's my take on it.

Even the Chinese leadership was able to recognize what our Communists aren't.  Communism does not work.  A totalitarian government being what it is, a nation is still more successful if it is based on Capitalism vs Communism.  We are actually going in the reverse of China.

My uncle became a huge lib/Obama supporter.  Sorry to hear this.

My brother re-enlisted after 9/11 and went to Afghanistan.  Good for him.  I appreciate his service.

After coming home for a while, he decided to go to work with Blackwater.  I support Blackwater.  They were charged with a tough job, and they performed well.  They were a big help with our effort in Iraq.  I'm not one of the people who think it is a pariah organization.  I don't buy into the trashing of Haliburton either.  Your brother was obviously well qualified, he filled a slot that needed to be filled, and I have no doubt he fulfilled his duties honorably.  I'm glad people like him did.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion about them, (As long as they are rational) but when my brother came home this last time, he refused to see him.  Your uncle is the person who lost out here.  Your brother is an honorable person.  Your uncle is unable to recognize that.  I am sorry if your brother was hurt by this.  I suggest he think of his uncle as having contracted a mental disorder, and have pitty on him rather than take this as an insult.  The left is very devious in their ways.  That should not surprise us, because the leader of evil is very capable.

Please, that is his nephew, he is in Iraq, and you cannot put aside your politics to say hey, to someone you’ve known since birth?  Your uncle is fearful of having someone or even something challenge his world view.  If your uncle thought about it, he would realize that the person he respected at one time would not do something that wasn't respectable.  If he has a problem with your brother, he should ask him to explain his actions.  Your brother would then be able to explain what his duties were, how he fulfilled them, how this helped the Iraqi people, how it made the job of our troops easier, and how the world will be a better place for his efforts on the ground in Iraq.

He has become unbearable to be around, he picks fights with everyone.  He has ostracized himself from the family.  He cannot deal with what they represent.  Your uncle has so convinced himself that honorable people are not honorable, that he is incapable of dealing with them in a rational manner.  Any person truly seeking truth would find this unacceptable.
Therefore your Uncle is not in this camp at the moment.  Hopefully your uncle will come around in time.  He may not.  You'll have to accept what he has become.  Again I urge you to think of it as a mental disorder, and not take it personally, although it is going to hurt to have to face this reality.

I am sorry your family is having to go through this.

Thank you for your insight. We have a very close open family. My brother just shrugs him off, in fact he is due home on a break next week. When I visited my parents over the summer I knew he was crazy so I avoided all talk of politics with him. By the end of the weekend we went head to head. I was able to counter him without hysteria on every point, everyone else stood back and watched and he finally stormed out. After he left, they were all, dang, you had facts, numbers and statistics, nobody has ever been able to shut him up. I replied, if y’all want to learn the truth read Free Republic. My brother is addicted to it.
