Jack Bauer Now Uses Recycled Weapons

Fox will announce today that thriller "24" is going green. Whether Kiefer Sutherland, who plays agent Jack Bauer, will start slamming terrorist suspects' heads into tables made from salvaged pine beams, or making close call getaways in helicopters fueled by leftover french fry oil, is unclear.

But according to a New York Times article yesterday, the network has stepped things up to become the first "carbon neutral show." Fox has "hired consultants to measure the carbon-dioxide output from the production, started using 20 percent biodiesel fuel in trucks and generators, installed motion monitors in bathrooms and kitchens to make the lights more efficient and paid the higher fees that help California utilities buy wind and solar power."

Executive producer Howard Gordon has been making eco-friendly changes to the show since 2007, but the cast and crew have also started emailing scripts, instead of distributing print-outs, and use hybrid vehicles to travel on the set, apparently saving 1,300 gallons of gas per season. (Though Fox undermines this achievement by pointing out to the Times that the show goes through 1,000 gallons a week.)

But, phew, car crashes are the exception! Producers are reluctant to stage them, and have instead, purchased enough clean energy from wind-power plants in India to counteract some of the carbon dioxide emitted when cars explode.

Gordon told the paper, "If we've needed a car chase, we've had a car chase, our obligation is first and foremost to the fans. If we have budget cuts and need to save money, then we'll have fewer car crashes."

"24" airs tonight as a two-hour episode. Look for announcements from the show's actors urging viewers to take green steps at home. It only takes a second to turn off the light in your interrogation rooms,

Jack is BACK!

I love the way he talks to the freckled one.

He's so focused.

Maybe they should do some explosions over the east coast so that the spring blizzard doesn't dump a couple of more feet of snow.... bunch of dumba##es.

jeez... can these freaks just STFU and entertain us. I mean puhleeze, as if anybody gives a cr#p about what a bunch of high-school graduates "feel" about the environment....or war...or the economy or of anything substantial.

Now if I wanted to know where the best cocaine was, the most secure prostitution phone list, the most discreet hotels, who the best lighting crew was, who does the best f'ing makeup, opinions on divorce lawyers, crooked accountants and which casting directors will let me sample the next crop of actresses.... well then H#LL yeah, let me know what the Hollywood crowd thinks....

Otherwise , just STFU and pretend to be somebody and read your lines that somebody else wrote.

I want Jack Bauer’s cell phone. The one that never needs charging. I want his bladder, too. He can go twenty four hours without a pee break. He’s the man!!

I think they have jumped on the GREEN bandwagon.

Personally, I plan to GO GREEN tonight.

I am leaving the TV off and not watching 24 or anything else.

Wonder why HOLLYWOOD LIFE doesn't suggest that 'option'?

Why not just use recycled footage of action sequences from other shows and films? Saves alot of effort.

I've enjoyed "24" quite a bit this year. Beats the heck out of Season 6!

I don't care if Jack is 'carbon neutral', as long as his weapons work their deadly magic against the bad guys. ;o)
