(AP)California Rep. Ellen Tauscher, a Democrat, will tomorrow introduce legislation in the House to repeal the militarys Dont Ask, Dont Tell policy that bans gay soldiers from serving openly in the military.
This law has failed our country and our military for 15 years, Tauscher said at a news conference. It harms military readiness and discriminates against patriotic young men and women who want to serve their country. Its time for Congress to right this wrong.
Tauscher planned to introduce the legislation today but did not because the weather kept the House out of session, according to communications director Jonathan Kaplan. The bill has 112 co-sponsors, he told Hotsheet, though no Republicans are among them.
President Obama has vowed to support a legislative repeal of the policy, something polling suggests a majority of Americans support. But with so many major fights on its agenda, the White House might be wary of taking on the issue anytime soon.

Or.. “How to punish the real military”
Bingo
Ellen Tauscher must have really loved the goings on at Abu Ghraib.
My Congress critter at work. Since Travis AFB is in her district, as is Solano County, the ONLY county in the Bay Area to vote FOR Proposition 8 in the majority, this should go over extremely well.
When one places the societal outcasts in positions of authority this is what they do. Watch enlistments begin to decline as the perverts come out of the military closet.
Good, just keep over-reaching. These idiots don’t even realize that stuff like this is what lost Xlinton the Congress in 1994. Just keep on — shove everything down everyone’s throats — and maybe 2010 will be the same.
Sorry, Ellen Tauscher (D). In order to serve in the military you must be morally fit. Those who practice homosexuality are not morally fit.
If a man claims he is homosexual, place him in an all female group.
I wouldn’t want him in my unit.
I can’t blame you.
One issue I want to clarify concerns President Clintons dont ask, dont tell, dont pursue military policy. I believe that the Clinton compromise was a step in the right direction.
I am also convinced that it is the first of a number of steps that will ultimately lead to gays and lesbians being able to serve openly and honestly in our nations military. That goal will only be reached when preventing discrimination against gays and lesbians is a mainstream concern, which is a goal we share.
Sincerly, Mitt Romney
Hasn’t worked since Philip II of Macedon put paid to the Sacred Band of Thebes.
The RINO party doesn't get it. Move the goal post left is their motto. That's how we got zer0.
Good grief! California is in the tank and this is all this stupid wanker can focus on?
Their objective is two-fold. They want to mainstream homosexuality, and they want to destroy the military.
Remember, they don’t respect the military, they don’t like the military, and they view it as a waste of valuable resources that could otherwise be spent on social programs like Turkey Basters for Lesbians, ACORN, the NEA and other similarly useless or partisan government programs.
It is the same reason they constantly agitate for the draft, while at the same time, accusing Republicans of secretly plotting to bring it back.

When I first saw the Lydie England tapes, I thought she was some Dyke dominatrix.
The way it is worded is so dumb! Don’t ask don’t tell does not keep gays from joining the military and serving their country. It only says they can not openly display that they are gay. Just as others in the service do not openly display that they are not gay.
So, in effect, he is calling for a death penalty for homosexuals, or those accused of homosexuality, in the military.
Well, as long as it is made clear to homosexuals before they sign up. No reason for them to get killed.
That’s probably her roll (in real life). The whole crowd were into homoerotic behavior.
As a former military member, one who spent the entire debacle called the Clinton menstru...I mean, administration, in the service, I have had reason to give this issue some thought. While I can see some merit to the pro-homosexual argument, there are too many logistical problems. One really important issue is that the government would need to DOUBLE the amount of barracks at every installation, and the number of latrines at every training facility and tent city in the world. If you don’t see why, think about it for a minute. I’ve been there, and I cannot see any other way. Even liberals (especiallly Democrats) will see that is the only solution. NATO, UN and other multinational operations would become more challenging, even before any enemy engagment occurred. Also, most military people are heterosexual and pretty set in their ways. We tend to use epithets not conducive to openly homosexual people. Of course, the military is always among the first to experiment with any social change, regardless how loudly the leadership shouts that the military is not a social experiment (of course it is, don’t be stupid. Sir.). The point is, anyone who thinks this will simply work because ‘that’s an order,’ is not dealing in social reality.
By the way, anyone else catch the irony of a woman from Claifornia called Ellen being the first to start screaming sbout letting ‘women in comfortable shoes’ serve openly? BTW, those women already do. There are gays in the military. They just aren’t allowed to admit it (and they are forbidden from ever having sex thanks to Bill “I did not have sexual relations” Clinton). WE all know who not to hit on, though. Believe me. The chicks will beat the guys down and the guys will try to get girls to cry at French films with them. We know.
