Obama Picks Ex-Clinton Official Nancy-Ann DeParle to Head Health Care Office

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- On the heels of naming pro-abortion Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius as his next Health Secretary, Obama has turned to another abortion advocate to head the White House Office of Health Care Reform. Nancy-Ann DeParle, a former Clinton administration official, was tapped for the post.

DeParle oversaw budget issues related to the Clinton health care plan, which pro-life advocates panned for promoting abortion and rationing of lifesaving medical care.

But DeParle is no stranger to controversy related to abortion and refused to allow a state to limit taxpayer funding of abortions under its own health plan.

In September 1998, as the administrator of the federal Health Care Financing Administration, DeParle refused to approve Virginia Gov. James Gilmore's child health insurance plan.

DeParle rejected approval of the Children's Health Insurance plan because it would not fund abortions in cases of rape or incest for uninsured, low-income women. The plan would have covered abortions only when the woman's life was endangered.

DeParle claimed that, under federal law, Virginia must pay for such abortions, and so she rejected the plan because Virginia would have tightened up abortion funding limits and used federal funds to do so.

"All we've asked is that Virginia follow the law as it relates to the funding of abortions. All they have to say is, 'Yes, Virginia will follow that law," she told the Washington Post at the time.

While most of the media coverage centers on Sebelius, DeParle will likely have a much more direct role in shaping Obama's health care plan -- which is expected to promote abortion and possible force insurance carriers, and therefore the public, to pay for abortions.

The pro-abortion New Republic magazine admits how important DeParle will be to the process.

"You're going to hear a lot of talk about how important Sebelius is to Obama's plans for comprehensive health care reform--and, undoubtedly, she'll play an important role, particularly if and when it comes time to implement a reform scheme," the magazine indicated Monday. "But when it comes to crafting a reform plan and then enacting it, DeParle's role is likely to be even more important."

DeParle has a career-long identification with pro-abortion Democratic officeholders and headed the state Medicaid agency under then-Governor Ned McWherter.

With Sebelius and DeParle on the job, pro-life advocates will be watching to see what goodies President Obama throws into the health care reform package for the abortion industry.

Why should it surprise you if the most pro-abortion Senator turned President should pick avid baby killers to support his murderous agenda?
