ATLANTA -- A well-armed couple opened fire with an assault rifle and pistol early Friday morning on some car thieves in southwest Atlanta.
The couple at a home in the 1900 block of Childress Drive told police that after somebody tried to steal their car last week, they rigged up a homemade alarm in their carport using string and cans.

Take their assault weapons!
The way people are arming themselves these days I won’t be surprised to see more of these stories.
Give them some more range time so they can hit what they aim at. That is true gun control.
This is the worst type of shooting. None of the bad guys where hit, and from the sound of it, I wouldn’t be surprised if neighbors find bullets in their houses.
‘S OK ....the perps probably left a trail of poop, easy to follow ....
Have they posted bond yet?
From a comment:
“It wasn’t that long ago in American history (100 or so years) when everyone had to arm themselves when walking around out West to protect themselves. If they can’t figure out how to control the crime issue, we might be entering a turnaround time period where we have to live in those times again.”
Maybe he’s right.
I think it was Elmer Kieth who said, “You can’t miss fast enough to win.”
The story makes it clear they only fired when they were fired upon. That is clearly self defense.
In some parts of Atlanta, an AK-47 would be underpowered. hehe
A shotgun is more practical in these situations.
You’re missing the point. They fired poorly. I wasn’t questioning their right to fire. I was criticizing their ability to respond effectively and safely.
Good on ‘em...
Better on ‘em if they had hit the perps...
Always remember: center mass, good sight picture, control your breathing, and squeeze through the trigger. Repeat as required.
And, practice, practice, practice.
“I won’t be surprised to see more of these stories.”
Oh, We’re going to see a lot more of these stories, but NOT because of the “way people are arming themselves!”
Already today, I’ve seen TWO stories about “assault rifles” being used somewhere. Just think we went, what, 5 years without so much as a peep about such weapons (reflecting the true nature of their significance in crime), and now all of a sudden, assault weapons are everywhere!!!!
What changed??? AG remarks perhaps?
I wonder what kind of car it is that it’s worth coming back a second time to try to steal it. Also, what went “wrong” the first time.
Any dead neighbors or was their own car the only thing wounded?
There a cheap and effective way to prevent car theft and you don’t have to worry about line of fire.
(sigh) You may be right. Look out for the evil “assault rifles” that are now killing women, children, minorities, and the homeless at an alarming rate!
Is there any doubt that the corrupt MSM is working hand-in-glove with Obama?
I like to tell the liberals that use the “wild west” reference that law abiding citizens openly carried becuase, iniitally, it was the criminal-element who used guns to rob them.
Drives them (even more) bat-schmidt crazy.
I love their high-tech security alarm. We used a string with a cowbell.
The Police could probably find the perps by following the trails of urine they left behind them.
Agreed. Shoot, but be damn sure you hit what you are aiming at and not dinging your neighbors in the process.
If they aren’t gang members, then Obama’s government will have those weapons confiscated.
They scared them off faster than a mountain lion after he smells a good phart. A good phart is tear gas to mountain lions. Runny nose, watery eyes and tongue hanging out while running away fast.
"Get off my lawn!"
Sounds like they shot their car up so badly that it can’t run. Hence the reason why the perps ran away instead of driving away. I guess that’ll teach those perps to try and steal your car, shoot your car up!!!
Is this covered by insurance??? Inquiring minds want to know.
“When police arrived they found shell casings littering the driveway and front yard, and the couple’s car riddled with bullet holes.
There was no blood at the scene so police don’t think any of the thieves were hit.”
Kind of a pyrrhic victory there.
I think PJ O’Rourke once said that no one is very accurate with automatic weapons.
"Assault weapon" and "assault rifle" are leftist propaganda terms intended to convey the danger of attack.
An assault weapon, properly defined is a short barreled rifle capable of selective fire. I strongly suspect that that the weapon used in this case was just a semi-automatic carbine.
We should use the term "semi-automatic carbine" in all communications with politicians and the press unless we are talking about selective fire weapons or "semi-automatic rifles" like the M1A or FAL, which the leftists often mistakenly call "assault weapons" as well.
I know, I just thought it would be funny to use that quote. Believe me, I’ve seen Heartbreak Ridge about 20 times.
Funny but looking at the bullet holes I had to ask myself "how'd they miss?"
I think you nailed it.
Sure. I was just mimicking the liberal gun grabbers.
Here’s what really happened; the boozed up couple had been drinking all evening and had run out of liquor so the guy jumps in the car and starts out of the driveway only to realize he was out of gas. When he stumbles out the car, he snags the trashcan lid with his shirttail and lurches into the clothesline.
His old lady, grabs the AK-47 they kept beside the fireplace because they spent their poker money on malt liquor and schnapps, staggered out the front door and let fly with about two magazines into the trunk of their soon-to-be-repossessed car.
The husband, having finally freed himself from the backyard tangle, fell to one knee and scraped it.
In a fit of anger, he emptied the pistol at the ground as the bullets bounced back up and left streaks of grazed paint down what was left of the sorry-old sedan.
Hearing the sirens, they threw some empty cans out of the trash container and cooked up the tale that the news just swallowed whole.
That’s my take.
You've left out all the important parts!
Heres what really happened; the boozed up couple of inbred hillbillies had been drinking cheap moonshine all evening and had run out of liquor from their still, so the poor downtrodden ACORN member tying to reclaim his reparations guy jumps in the car belinging to the two inbred drunk gon-toting inbred hillbilly members of the Klu Klux Klan/NRA and starts out of the driveway only to realize he was out of gas that these two honky-tonk guzzler bigots deprived him of. When he stumbles out the car, he snags the trashcan lid with his shirttail and lurches into the clothesline, that these two bible thumping rednecks deliberately put in his way to deprive him of his rights. He is considering a class action lawsuit sponsored by the NCAA and ACLU.
There. Fixed it.
Well now, that there’s a right-full clothesline.
NCAA??? You mean NAACP, right?
Ooops. yes.
“gang members” - that’s the old term.
Now they’re “ACORN community organizers”.
Lib Brother in Law: “Why would anyone need a semi-automatic?”
Me: “What’s a semi-automatic?”
BIL: [pause] “Um... I don’t know.”
I understand and meant no offense.
I’m just saying we need to counter their tactic of controlling the conversation (libs don’t debate) by controlling the language.
Ha!
Sounds like an opportunity to educate. (Some of us have more such opportunities in our families than we would prefer to have. ;-)
I did explain that almost EVERY firearm is a “semi-automatic”,
and I also told him that I believe that was the whole point, to demonize ALL firearms. (He was trying to be a “moderate” with a “common sense” approach to gun control.)
I asked him where he heard that term, and he didn’t remember, but I’m sure it was within some lefthanded circle jerk that he gets all his information from.
Too bad they shot up their own car. I wonder if insurance will pay for it?
I'm surrounded by gun grabbers and I've been seeing more and more of the "attempted moderation" tactic. It's a rhetorical device and if you push them you'll find they still believe in trampling the bill of rights.
My come back is to ask if they believe in the selective enforcement of the second amendment, do they also believe in the selective enforcement of the first amendment? (Most do but won't admit it.) How about the 13th? (Not mentioning the fact that the H1B visa witch IS a selective enforcement of the 13th amendment.)
I don’t care if you are a bad shot...but how the hell do you miss a bunch of men, half way in a car, inside of a garage, using an AK, when you obviously shot enough times to riddle the car with bullet holes???
There ain’t been no hillbillies livin’ inside the perimeter since the 70’s. North ga hillbilly voice/off
