President Obama's Top Republican Ally [California RINO] [Porkulus alert]
The Atlantic ^ | 2009-02-19 | Ronald Brownstein

SACRAMENTO-While tensions are rising between President Obama and Congressional Republicans, California's Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger says he is eager for more opportunities to partner with Obama on big issues like health care and energy. He's also got some advice for the new president about building inclusive "post-partisan" coalitions.

Schwarzenegger is positioned to become perhaps Obama's most important Republican ally.

He was among the most prominent GOP governors who backed the economic recovery plan that cleared Congress with support from no Republicans in the House and just three in the Senate. And Schwarzenegger has advanced his own state-level initiatives on health reform, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting alternative energy that closely track Obama's campaign proposals.

"Whether it is health care, whether it is environmental issues, we are willing to work with him," Schwarzenegger said in an interview Tuesday as he lustily puffed on a cigar in his smoking tent inside the State Capitol. "We started with infrastructure because that was a very important part of the whole thing and we felt it was really good that he was interested in infrastructure and put money aside as part of the stimulus."

Though leading Congressional Republicans have grown steadily more dismissive of Obama's stimulus package, Schwarzenegger continues to defend the plan, particularly the elements promoting energy conservation and renewable energy. "There is good stuff in there," he said.

Arnold would only be considered a Republican in California and perhaps NJ/MA. In the rest of the country he is concidered a center-left Marxist.

For a Democrat to be seen as working with Republicans, he has only to work with Liberal (at least on social issues) Republicans.

Oddly enough, for a Republican to be seen as working with Democrats, he has to work with...Liberal Democrats.

To his credit, he did issue the following advice.
"I think that is the key thing in this whole thing- [that] the industries in America don't feel that Obama is selling them out to the environmentalists, that he finds a middle road, something that is doable for industry and is doable also for the environmentalists," Schwarzenegger said. "I think that is the key thing to get that trust across with a few decisions he makes right at the beginning that shows 'I'm in the middle, I'm not selling out this way or this way....and I am doing what is right for the country'....The same to the health care industry, the hospitals, everyone who deals with it [health care reform]."

“Arnold would only be considered a Republican in California.....”

Californian’s don’t consider him Republican. It’s unfortunate he retains the association.

Republicans have to get rid of any and all RINO’S to clear the Republican name of such Leftist Swine, so Republican means opposition once again.

Arnold is no republican, he’s sided more and more with the dems ever since his intiatives got voted down. Stupid people in the state voted against all the reform he tried to implement, now we’re all going to be affected by the tax hike. Higher sales tax, dmv fees, and gas tax, anyone who spends and drives will feel the pinch in their wallets. I feel for the dealerships that are going to be affected even more now.
So much for the $13 a week taxbreak some people will be getting from obama’s great tax cut.

I was going to make my first post about that Octo-mom.

With the new tax increases, she lost a $210 tax credit for *each* child!

The only justice I could find in the whole mess, LOL.

Thankfully (I think), I missed that one. ;-)

This jerk is everything I thought he was plus a few extras...

"Jerk" is too kind, IMO.

Not much difference between Schwarzenegger and Obama, both are nitwits and are empty headed. Schwarzenegger just doesn’t get it that this increase in taxes will just fasten the exodus from this sick State. Like with King Obama who is destroying America, Schwarzenegger has already screwed California

...he’s sided more and more with the dems ever since his intiatives got voted down.

He sided with Dems, far before that. Prop 57/58, Sierra Nevada Conservancy, his entire environmental platform, appointing liberal judges.

Stupid people in the state voted against all the reform he tried to implement...

I voted against them. I contend that the stupid people are those that thought these would actually make any positive "reform" and continue to quote the liberal media mantra. Are you aware that the spending cap 1) would have generated HIGHER spending and authorize MORE borrowing? Arnold's propaganda machine has used the defeat of those measures as rationale for "turning leftward" and the media has made it their headline for a couple years now. Please don't buy into it.

BTW, his so called Spending Cap, the one that just got through the legislature, is a remake of the prior bogus one. Note that Republicans are already lining up to expose it for the do-nothing measure it is.
