Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., the biggest U.S. tire maker, said Wednesday it plans to cut nearly 5,000 jobs this year after a sharp drop in sales led to a loss of $330 million in the fourth quarter.
The job cuts equal almost 7 percent of the Akron, Ohio-based companys work force and follow the elimination of about 4,000 jobs in the second half of last year.

It is time for the current administration to step down and put adults in charge.
With any luck, every one is a union job.
I wish W had done the same thing early enough.
This is where the rubber meets The Toad..................
I’m getting “tired” of the Obama Implosion - aren’t you?
::::::
Is it 2010 yet?
even with $600 MILLION in newly minted bamster stim-currency for new gubmint vehicle fleet?
Where’s the love, people?
“With any luck, every one is a union job.”
Now THAT’S looking for the silver lining!
I wonder if the Democrats are still confident that they can pick up some more seats in the House and Senate at the midterm election?
Unfortunately, in my experience, Goodyear tires suck.
I blew all five tires (four plus the spare) within 18 months of buying a new Dodge Ram back in the 90’s. At $136 each, Goodyear got more than their fair share of money out of me...and it is all they ever will get.
Nah, must still be Bush’s fault.
Obama is their “messiah” he can do no wrong.
LOL!
He is an elite minion of Satan as far as I’m concerned.
I had a bad run on tires a couple of years ago, and I think they were Goodyears. Some of the tires were only a couple of months old and were failing. The place I bought them from didn’t want to do anything or pro rate them. I went to a different place and a different brand and didn’t have any more problems.
But, but, but. . .I thought the stimulus plan was supposed to stop layoffs?!
“The place I bought them from didnt want to do anything or pro rate them. I went to a different place and a different brand and didnt have any more problems.”
Ditto for me. I even e-mailed Goodyear, and never got any response.
I got so mad that I eventually started buying some $54 off-brand tires. Never had a flat after that.
I notice much criticism of the Goodyear COMPANY. Yet I notice NO criticism of the WORKERS who actually made the tires not caring how good or bad they were. I am sure the Goodyear CEO and his assistants did NOT work on the production line. There is blame to go around..ALL around.
