(CNN) -- In her first interview since giving birth, the teenage daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said having a child is not "glamorous," and that telling young people to be abstinent is "not realistic at all." Bristol Palin says "everyone should just wait 10 years" to have a baby, rather than when you're young.
Bristol Palin says "everyone should just wait 10 years" to have a baby, rather than when you're young.
"It's just, like, I'm not living for myself anymore. It's, like, for another person, so it's different," Bristol Palin told Fox News' Greta Van Susteren. "And just you're up all night. And it's not glamorous at all," she said. "Like, your whole priorities change after having a baby."

I posted this in another thread, but I think it belongs here too.
I teach in a very well regarded Catholic secondary school in Australia - a Jesuit school (generally regarded as one of the top two Catholic schools in the country - alongside its brother school in Sydney, and one of the twenty or so top schools in general).
They stress abstinence as the best way for their students. The ideal choice. The choice they hope theyll all make, and the choice they expect them to take. The boys are left in no doubt of what is and isnt expected of them.
And then they get on to the practicalities. As a non-Catholic I was rather surprised the first time I encountered it, but they tell the boys all about contraception and how to use it if they decide to have sex. Ive heard one of the Priests put it pretty simply.
If youre having sex before you are married, then youre committing a sin. What Id say to you is this - if youre going to sin, then sin safely.
In my role as a tutor at the school I have personal pastoral responsibility for 16 boys. Id always urge them to wait in the strongest terms I can (partly because I believe its the right thing to do, partly because its my job to help reinforce the message of the school, and partly because I know in most cases their parents want them to wait and I try to back parents) - but Ive also directed boys to contraception in cases where its clear that Im not going to convince them abstinence is the right choice. I dont want them having sex - but I want them getting a girl pregnant far less.
Welcome to FR...now that you’re here, you’re gonna want to utilize the (less than stellar, for sure!) search feature before putting up a thread........this one’s been up and around all day long.
Same discussion - sure. Same article? I can’t see it and I’ve been here nearly five years.
I’m not sure if Bristol should be, like, giving interviews.
She's young. It's not as bad as, "y'know", Caroline Kennedy, who is three times her age and the beneficiary of many years of education.
Certainly not in her case.
I agree she is to young to play 20 questions with middle aged lawyer turned reporter.
No slight on Bristol at all. I’m just talking politically. I’d like to see Sarah in national office and I don’t think this kind of thing will help.

Any method “for all teens” is unrealistic. naturalman1975 shows a practical way to put forth the abstinence message. Kinda a new twist on trust, but verify. Actually, that might be what I tell my daughter ... OR my son, now that I think back.
Carolyn is that like, you?
I get sick of "all" being overused. College isn't for all kids, but it's a good choice for many kids. War isn't the answer to all problems, but it is the best answer in some situations when the other options are even worse. Not all married couples remain faithful, but more than half do. Not all married couples even remain married, but more than half do. Not all democrats are intentionally and knowingly evil, but Obama, Pelosi, and Kennedy are Democrats.
For some people, sobriety is “not realistic”. But those people need to get sober, or they die.
Nobody likes kids having sex...but it’s been going on since we were cavemen. Thinking the government can throw billions at this and stop it is liberal in nature. It belongs to the churches and the parents.
It’s, like, she’s ditzy.
Bristol is affecting the "family business" and like Don Corleone admonished Sonny, "Never tell anyone outside the Family what you're thinking again!"
I couldn't find it, either. Thanks for posting, WheresMyBailout.
