Canadian Company Buys Iraq's Uranium (Iraqi cabinet just approves sale)

A Canadian company has purchased 550 tons of Iraqi uranium concentrate worth $90 milllion.

Sakatoon-based uranium producer Cameco Corp., the world's largest producer of uranium, won the contract last year. But although the Iraqi cabinet only approved the sale on Tuesday, the last remains of the country's uranium concentrate or "yellow cake" had already been secretly transported to a Canadian port in July 2008 with US support.

Iraqi government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh told AFP on Tuesday that since the country has signed the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, it no longer needs this material accrued by former dictator Saddam Hussein, and the cabinet has approved the sale.

Iraq still has to clean up the last radioactive waste at the former nuclear power station at Tuwaitha south of Baghdad.

Guess I just found the story odd in a couple ways, maybe it's just me.

It was moved in July 08 our PRAVDA media didn't cover it. It's enough uranium to build 140 or so nukes, but who cares. Much more than the UN had known about.

My guess where it all came from, yellowcake can reproduce while in Iraq. Because surly Saddam wasn't able to get anymore because of the sanctions. The New York Times told us that.

Is this the Yellowcake that came from Africa? The same Yellowcake Joe Wilson told us Saddam never bought? The same Yellowcake that got Karl Rove and Scooter Libby into a world of hurt from the MSM?

BUT the anti-American left wing children of Hitler said Iraq had NO yellow cake.

Thanks for posting this information. People seem to forget (or not even know) that the US found those 550 tons of yellowcake in Iraq during the “war”. And that all 550 tons had to be shipped quietly in small loads to Canada. Whatever was Saddam going to do with 550 tons of this stuff, I ask the very vocal anti-war Democrats and John Kerry? Bush was right!

Thanks again!

I don't think anyone knows where the extra yellowcake came from, or aren't talking, but my understanding is that Iraq had 350 metric tonnes that the UN knew about and when the US forces got there it had multiplied and became 550 metric tonnes.

Why no one cared to make a point of it, like maybe Bush doing a presser at the uranium processor in Canada pointing this pout is beyond me.

550 metric tonnes was enough for 140 nukes of the Hiroshima size according to experts who ran the numbers.

The story was kept quiet because it helped the Democrat campaign for no one to know about it.

More of the media giving us what they want us to know.

A lot like the 500 Billion dollar run on the banks that no one knows anything about.
