Both Collins and Snowe have faced conservative primary opponents in past elections.
Snowe’s job approval rating in Maine is around 80% positive so its very difficult to run against her. She won with 60% of the vote in her first term, 69% in her second term and 74% of the vote in her third term, second only to Richard Lugar who ran unopposed.
Collins and Snowe get heavy support from independents and Democrats in Maine.

I’ll be the absolute FIRST to tell you I don’t know one damned thing about Maine politics. =) I am just surmising based on what I read. if you can enlighten me . . . have at it. I am ready for some optimism here.
