When people have valid green cards and an employer recruits them from afar to meet a really low standard of pay and benefits..there isn’t much a state can do.
The people need to rise up and smite Tyson.

I already stopped buying Tysonawhile back. Is there any way to get a list of the brands they package?
Locals who want these jobs need government to regulate in such a way so they can get them. Ideally, the skills and merit of ones one job stands by itself, without need for government intevention to attain jobs above the market rate.

Exactly. I’ve boycotted Tyson since the Clinton’s were involved with them. If we all had, we wouldn’t be facing this question today.
These are Egyptian Christians (Copts), and no matter what kind of hell the people in Shelbyville have gone through I can guarantee you that these people have gone through 10 times worse. This is a sad situation. Instead of a welcome it appears that the Copts have just been trapped in a nasty situation.

I stopped buying Tyson’s quite some time ago. I get all my vegetables and chicken and fish from the local Asian market. The vegetables are always fresher (except for the celery for some reason), and so is the chicken. The chicken, and eggs come from the Amish community to the east of Cleveland. And everything is MUCH less expensive!

Yes it is: sad indeed. But who's to blame for this situation?
I say that it's members of both parties, who had their own political reasons for allowing something like this to happen!
We as a Nation have been sold out by our own politicians for years, and we sit idly by and just let them do it.
I live only a few miles from this area, and can assure you that there are hundreds of locals that need those jobs, but can't afford to work for slave wages: and why should they have too?
I am a small business man who understands all too well what it means to compete, but I still would rather pay a fellow American to work, than to import labor so that I can enjoy a fatter bottom line, at the expense of my own community!
This crap could not go on without the political enablers of the state as well as the federal level.
This situation looks strangely akin to the Slave trade of our earlier founding, but the only difference between then and now is that none of these folks are actually considered as property of the employer!
The real problem here is that they are keeping them all in a group. Each family should be sent to some other place in the country. That way they might eventually become Americans. Leaving them to establish a minority enclave in one town is not right!

There are many cesspools around the world with desperate people. The Tyson’s of the world are despicable to bring these people in.
Tyson just shifts their costs onto the local taxpayers. The taxpayers subsidize Tyson’s operations by having to take care of 3rd world immigrants.
Another example of how moral relativism is destroying our once great nation.
Gee, that's too bad. But they need to stay the hell out of our country, unless they're going to be starting businesses of their own and employing Americans.

The Copts have been hard-working decent citizens no matter where they have gone. Australia is a case in point. And I can guarantee you this, within a generation most will have started businesses that will employ the Tennesse Know-nothings. And don’t give me any of that garbage that locals need jobs but can’t afford to work for slave wages. I spent years working for slave wages, as I imagine the majority of people on FR have while they were working their way up the ladder. Something tells me that Tyson probably couldn’t get local work so went after Mexicans; now that pool is diminished they went looking for someone else. Don’t blame the Copts, they would do anything to leave Egypt and persecution from both the Muslim Brothers and an Islamic military dictatorship. You don’t like Tyson, so be it. But don’t take it out on people who came here, just like your forebearers, in search of freedom.
Oh, and nice talk about Tennessee "Know-Nothings." You sound like you're from the Arlen Specter wing of the party.
If Nashville can’t employ them then shut-off the pipeline. Shelbyville is rural and cannot provide for these migrants.

I’m sorry, I missed your post. The Copts are the descendents of those who accepted Christianity through the evangelism of Saint Mark. The Coptic Church =see Google for information on this= is thus about on a par with the ancient sites that Saint Paul visited. Some very ancient Coptic churches with ancient manuscripts and relics are found in the old city of Cairo.
Than you, Melchior. Actually, I phrased my question in a bad way. I know what Copts are, but I was hoping you’d prove to the people on this site that they really are the kind of people who are applying for jobs instead of muslims. Sorry about that. In any event, your post was a good one.
