The complete intolerance of many on the left for diversity of opinion often goes beyond the mere wish to stifle the expression of opposing political viewpoints via the so-called "Fairness Doctrine" or by other means. Most recently there has been a disturbing new trend, voiced by those like Mike Malloy who called Republicans "domestic terrorists" and wants to prosecute them.
So what was the reaction to Malloy's intolerance by his fellow leftwingers? Unfortunately, it was met by strong approval as one can see in this Democratic Underground thread titled, "Mike Malloy: The Republican Party Needs to be Eliminated." The posts on that thread go way beyond the mere castigation of Republicans and enter into the realm of primitive blood lust. Perhaps you will find it disturbing to read some of the psychotic posts but you ignore them at your own peril:

You have a point that we really shouldn’t care what they say, but the fact of the matter is these same asshats are indoctrinating people. I read this letter in my local paper (The Staten Island Advance) this morning:

This guy must have been asleep when Obama’s non-tax paying nominees recused themselves.

There's no comparison between the two sides. The level of blind hatred on the left is off the charts. My rule of thumb is how many times did I hear conservatives lament the fact that Bill Clinton wasn't assassinated in office: Never. How many times did I hear liberals express disappointment that George W. Bush hadn't been assassinated: Plenty. If somebody put it up to a vote whether or not all Republicans would be shot dead, you'd have at least 20% of the country voting Yes.

We shouldn't take it personally. The liberals want babies dead, with our tax dollars paying for the abortions and the force of the state compelling all doctors and pharmacists to participate on command. They want old people dead, again with our tax dollars paying for "death with dignity" and the force of the state compelling all doctors and pharmacists to participate on command. They want everybody dead so that Mother Earth can go on without any of us or our "carbon-footprints". They hate human life itself, not just republicans.
We thought the same thing back in 2000. We thought the Democratic Party was “dead on arrival” and many here in 2005 even thought so. However, the Democrats are saying that to us now and in four to ten years when we have the majority again we will be saying it again about the Democratic Party. It is an endless cycle.

Actually, I think the Dems more believe that the Republicans should be “re-educated”, rather than “eliminated”. That’s been more their style around the world when they take power, although many are eliminated in the process (i.e., Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot, Vietnam, etc.) - you can see them part of the way in Europe where it’s now considered RACIST to discuss immigration - to the point of facing jail time, as that discussion is considered an attack on Islam. And the laws generally work, as most opponents are immigration cannot afford the consequences of discussing the subject.
What puts us at such a disadvantage is that the vast majority of Republican voters have NO CLUE that this is the ULTIMATE GOAL of their opponents. They still think it’s a game of ideas and at the end of the day we’re all Americans, in this together. MAYBE Obama will drop enough clues so that the public can get an idea just what they have in store (before they can implement)...let’s hope so or it’s over.
